Hi, Wilbur, I note that this newsgroup is called rec.boats.cruising. I also note that none of the thousands of posts you make say anything about your cruising, let alone what places you've been or what cruising attempts or work you've accomplished in, say, the last 5 years. I, on the other hand, have regularly posted the work I've done to go, and once gone, where I've gone and how I did it. Your turn... L8R Skip And they never will... |

From reading his posts and looking at his web site I thought he and the Mouse Boat had cruised thousands of miles, he was far fitter then the rest of us, had only a bicycle to ride about on and hated women. I have not followed closely the adventures of Skip and Lydia. I
admire their honesty and bravery. None of us is an expert at anything. Everybody can learn something from everybody else. Skip and Lydia are not embarrassed to admit their shortcomings. I hope to meet them this year on the water. As for their detractors, I can only say that many nay-sayers and critics have never really been there themselves. Peter s/v Now or Never! |

Terry K I generally try to be nice but I can't stand people like Skip who go around making a mockery out of sailing and then act like it's so cool to do so. Their reports are nothing but one blunder after another. Poor example after poor example. Dangerous acts after dangerous acts. Neglect after neglect. It's a wonder they managed to survive as long as they have. It just goes to show some people have a lot of luck. What I find most offensive about Skip's posts is how no mention is made by him of WHY he manages to screw up almost everything he does. He never examines his mistakes nor does he explain what he should have done to avoid them. He sounds incapable of learning. He gives the impression that it's normal to go blundering about dangerously putting his life and his crew's life in danger, not to mention any innocent boaters who happen to have the misfortune to be run over by him while he's below typing his trip reports and checking his radar screen every 20 minutes thinking he's operating safely. Give me a break. This man should be given no respect - as a matter of fact he should be laughed off the group. It's one thing to write his kind of crap as a tall tale and I don't mind that but Skip never mentions most of it's embellished or in jest because it probably isn't. A beginning boater might well think Skip is a good mentor because although he's a hazard on the water his posts are something beginners might think of as the way sailing is done these days. Heaven forbid. Wilbur Hubbard |
