Peggy, I bought your book and it is great. Was at the show on Monday stopped by
the booth couple of times but you weren't there. Sorry I missed you. What's to keep the screen from becoming clogged up, Lew? Tell me more about this, 'cuz I'm having a hard time visualizing any screen in a holding tank that wouldn't cause more problems than it solves. The problem I see with any type of screen is, waste contains animals fats...they're what clogs up internal holding senders...they build up inside the tank--and I would assume on any screens--the same way fats and grease can build up in sink drains. Are you onto something I need to know about? Btw...while I have at least a few people's attention...I may or may not be MIA from this group for a week starting Weds...I'll be at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. Fawcett's Boat Supply carries a lot of my publisher's books (including mine, I hope!) and has given Seaworthy Publications some space in one of their booths for "vendor support." It's PRIME "real estate," too! In the big A-tent, right across the asile from Raritan. I'll be there for the duration...so if any of you are planning to come to the show, I hope you'll stop by the booth and say hi. Monday was my day to crawl around as many boats as possible to see how they're plumbed, so I was out of the booth quite a bit that day. But I'm glad you bought my book anyway...thanks! ![]() Peggie ---------- Peggie Hall Specializing in marine sanitation since 1987 Author "Get Rid of Boat Odors - A Guide To Marine Sanitation Systems and Other Sources of Aggravation and Odor" http://www.seaworthy.com/html/get_ri...oat_odors.html |

I missed you too on Monday. Well, rats. Unfortunately, until I can be cloned, there's no way to be in more than one place at the same time...and one of the reasons I go to shows is to gain first-hand, hands-on knowledge of how the builders are plumbing their boats. Equally unfortunately, it appears that, for most of 'em, the sanitation system continues to be just something that's not part of the boat design, but just a required nuisance they shoe-horn into any location it'll fit, and in the least expensive way possible (a single 30 gallon holding tank on a 40' boat with two toilets, one of which requires a head discharge hose run of 22'? Ye gods!). Anyhow, I guess we'll just have to try to connect again next year. Ye gods!). Well we've replaced one of our holding tanks (we have two toilets). Both of them were 12 gallon jobs (we thought ten, but after Bob took the old one out, he measured). We've put in a 20+ one in the aft head because we expected to be in a place where the LectraSan would not be legal. The old holding tanks would last us barely 3 days. (Bob used the forward head and I used the aft head.) They did have two pumpouts so they weren't on a single hose. But the fitting wasn't so good (didn't fit a lot of hoses) so Bob's replaced those too. Anyhow, I guess we'll just have to try to connect again next year.
