Don't forget the steamer! We forgot it once and I had to make one
out of aluminum pie pans. It also makes a good trivet for the
pressure cooker.

Oh yea, I did have to get a flame tamer for the propane stove. The flames
were too hot even on low to slow cook many things. I found one at
Lehmans.com.

We just have an insert that goes in any round pan. That's why I can't
use the square pans that are stainless clad copper that I love. It
kind of expands with overlapping pie sections and has a center post
with a ring on it. You can pick it up hooking the ring with a fork to
drain the veggies.

If you are doing coastal cruising where you may be in contact with
grocery stores, it would (for us) be better to use a disposable pan if
we have some large thing to cook. (Like roasting a turkey for
instance)

A couple of you have mentioned vacuum packaging equipment. I have
always thought that such an item could be useful several places around
the boat, e.g., storing electronics, keeping a set or two of clothes
dry, etc as well as for storing food. What brands and sizes do you
all have? Any other features that you would especially recommend?
Where can I get one at a reasonable price? Thanks for the help.

We have a Tillia FoodSaver. It's one of the better models, I think a "Professional," that
has a number of little features that are handy, like automatic cycling, and finer control
on the vacumn. I've seen their products at CostCo. Much of went into the freezer was
bagged, plus we used it for spare parts, emergency packs, etc. It came with some plastic
containors that could be vacumned, but we didn't use it much.

Keith,

Thanks for the link. A Tilia Foodsaver Pro II is now on my list of
things I really would like to have on board.
