Default Outboard HP - 2-Stroke vs. 4-Stroke - no such thing as FINAL

Jere,

I have a new 2 hp Honda which came with a plastic prop but am intrigued
with the "MONSTER and exotically formed 2 blade prop" of which you
speak.

I'd be most grateful if you could find out what it is and where to get
one, please.

Cordially,
Courtney

One (hopefully) useful piece of information might be the prop with which
they're fitted. But I've seen no info on that for sub-10HP stuff. Anyone
with info or URL?

I've seen it on individual websites (often on the maintenance pages
showing replacement props), but don't know of a central location with
that info. Thus, discovering the big prop models requires careful
inspection. Personally, I like larger props and fewer blades. (As an
example, a 2 HP Honda I borrowed from a friend had a relatively MONSTER
and exotically formed 2 blade prop. It was sufficient to bring our 12.5'
PortaBote onto plane with just me aboard.)

Something that I've noticed that seems interesting is that some sites
(often aftermarket) show plastic/nylon/composite replacement props with
a more aggressive pitch. The theory is that the plastic prop can be more
efficiently formed, flattens a little under high power, is lighter, AND
gives higher thrust at lower power settings. Since they're cheap
(relatively), it's no big thing to carry a spare in case you make a
mistake and ding one. Haven't tried one yet, so can't vouch for the
claimed performance.

Probably was the stock prop, and it's been two years since I looked
carefully at it, but I remember it as very big and seemed to be more
scimitar (sp?) shaped than most small engines' props. Certainly had
larger blades than the 4 hp two stroke I have in the basement.

I may see it this weekend if the owner comes to the raft up and has the
engine with him.
