![]() http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/m...bn27boat3.html "A woman on one of the boats discovered the fire about 2:30 a.m. after a smoke alarm woke her and she saw heavy smoke coming from the boat's circuit breaker." How would you prevent this type of fire from spreading from one boat to the others ? |

To be warned IF a fire occurs after all: -Smoke/fire detectors. To prevent a fire from spreading like mad (to other yachts): -Fire extinguishers, -Use of non-flamable materials (paint, plastics, wood, etc), -More space between yachts in a marina. Pretty basic I guess. Why didn't they just move the other yachts out of their slips before the fire got to them ? Was it because everybody was sleeping and nobody woke up until these yachts were already on fire ? Perhaps some kind of heat or smoke detectors installed outside these yachts could have saved them. Installing cameras and hiring a security guard who stays up at night could have saved them as well. With 446 boats at the marina, each owner would have to pay less than $10 a month to have a guard on duty 8 hours every night. |

: How would you prevent this type of fire from spreading from one boat to the others ? Hell, that's easy. FORCE boat companies to put electrical breakers in NEMA FIREPROOF ENCLOSURES....instead of pretty, but flammable, wooden boxes with the wires all tied to the wood or plastic or fiberglass to make sure it leaps into flames! It never ceases to amaze me how noone questions a $300,000 yacht with a breaker panel woodscrewed into a cabinet. What the hell are they thinking? There wouldn't have been a fire in the boat, at all, if the electrical system had been installed to NEC standards like your garage.... Why is this crap made so CHEAP?! |

A car manufacturer wouldn't even dare to put that kind of (lack of) quality in a $300,000 car. -- MarineYacht Yacht Charters http://www.marineyacht.com |
