Default Newport 27 Auto Tiller

I called Simrad and they informed me that their product will not work
with the Newport 27. It has to do with how the cockpit is
configured...the seats don't align good enough with the tiller. I
was able to return the product but had to pay a 15% restocking fee,
so I am trying to avoid that next time. I've been looking at the
RayMarine models online but just wanted to see if anyone had any luck
installing those on a N27.

I find it hard to believe that the Simrad won't work properly, but if
that's true, then you will probably have the same problems with the
Autohelm.

A trick I use that might help you: I mounted a fixed "tiller" just for
the pilot under the real tiller. This lets me use a shorter pedestal
mounted on the seat for the outboard end. If you have a balanced rudder,
you can probably mount further aft than they recommend, too.
