Painting flexible plastic vents?
We have two of those PVC Dorade vent cowls. One is white inside. The
other used to be red but is now faded and mildewed. Soft scrub and soaking in bleach all night didn't fix it. I'd like to paint both red inside. Is there any paint that will work on the flexible plastic and not flake off? -- Roger Long |

I use acetone for my Nico plastic vents and it does the job.

Roger, clean as best you can, wipe down with lacquer thinner, sand lightly,
tape off the areas you don't want red, take them to an auto body shop, they can spray with the primer they use for plastic car bumpers, finish with the red you want. Mine were done 3 seasons ago, still look new! "Roger Long" wrote in message ... We have two of those PVC Dorade vent cowls. One is white inside. Good advice John. The acrylic urathanes that the auto industry uses have
great UV protection and will add years to the life of the Dorades -- Shield Finishes and Nauticoat Marine Finish Systems www.shieldfinishes.com "John K Kudera" wrote in message ... Roger,
Don Casey wrote an article about this very subject a couple of years ago. He suggested to wipe the old dorade vents with mineral spirits and then paint the vents (using a good badger brush) with a linear polyurethane. I would not use cheap spray paint or automotive paint. Pettit EasyPoxy or Interlux Brightside are good choices. Mark A. Bunch, Sr. Tartan 27 #468 -- "Keeldragger" http://www.keeldragger.com |
