PLONK Well, I did have the misfortune of attracting your attention. And, yes, it does sound as though you might have problems with people in your "real" life. Perhaps you should talk to your doctor about increasing your prosac dosage. |

The culture makes no difference whatsoever if you are so committed to leftist doctrine or extreme political correctness that yhou abandon all common sense. Not a flame. Just my opinion. Joe |

They (Muslims) are allowed to operate schools in our country where their students are indoctrinated with hatred for our culture (well, what's left of it). They (the Muslims) are involved in genocide in Africa. They (the Muslims) are bombing Christian Christian churches in several countries. They (the Muslims) are persecuting every other religion, viz. I point this out in response to a posting someone else made and I am "a cowardly little anonymous poster, hiding behind . . . lacy skirts." Paul In deference to cultural norms, however, if apprehended, the pirates should have their hands cut off. Yep, that seems PC to me. R. |

It appears that all but one of these many acts of piracy was committed
by Muslims. Once upon a time the USA had the common sense, the will and the sense of self preservation to punish pirates, viz the Barbary Pirates who were severely curtailed by the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines in the early 1800s. (Hence "The Shores of Tripoli" in the Marine anthem) It is worth noting that the Barbary Pirates were also Muslims Today we could not possibly do so because it would be soooo politically incorrect to persecute any member of this "great" religion. Why, the ACLU would have the government in court faster than a personal injury lawyer at a plane crash site and the "New York Times" would come out with banner attack headlines. The rest of the American main-stream media would follow in lock-step. Flame away, liberal assholes! There are bad Muslims and good Muslims, just as there are bad Christians and good Christians. Prejudice means to pre judge, that is, you make your decision before you have the facts. Prejudice keeps you from distinguishing between good and bad. You either assume that all members of some group, race, tribe, or nationality have the exact same traits. Logic and experience should alert you that such sameness is very unlikely. The answer is to look at the facts. For those Muslims who are pirates, terrorist, murderers etc. let's punish them severely. For those Muslims who are gentle, caring, productive people, let's encourage them and befriend them so that they will increase in numbers. For Christians who murder and steal and try to impose their religion on everybody else in the world, let's punish them. For those Christians who love their fellow humans and try to put the loving teaching of Jesus into practice, let's encourage and befriend them. All the ACLU is asking you to do is treat individuals as individuals. If the facts show that a particular person is bad, lay on the punishment. If the person is good, even though many of his/her group are bad, do not punish the person for the sins of the majority of the group. To do otherwise is to wallow in stupidity -- "don't confuse me with the facts; let me just hate all members of a group without having to think." In life it is very important to distinguish between your friends and your enemies. You cannot do that on a group basis. You have to do it on a person-by-person basis. Lee Huddleston |

Joe,
I also note that all the pirates mentioned in the report were men. Does that mean that we should hate and punish all men in the world? Including you? No, we should distinguish between good men and bad men, just as we do between good Muslims and bad Muslims. Lee Huddleston |

Joe Joe, You say, "They (Muslims) are allowed to operate schools in our country where their students are indoctrinated with hatred for our culture (well, what's left of it)." These are citizens of our Country; they are part of our culture. They are part of our culture, just like all the Swiss, Norwegian, Irish, Morroccian, Spanish, Jamician, Hawaiian, Thai, Chinese, Indian, and Nigerian (To name only a few.) people who have come here and are now citizens. The United States has such a rich heritage because we have a truly world-wide heritage. Joe, Are their others, maybe Joe's church, that hate and speak hatred about fellow citizens? Do you do this, yourself? Illegal acts of piracy on the high seas do not make everyone from that country or religion bad. |
