And you're both correct. I've always taken a mooring at the yacht
club behind the breakwater, but perhaps other can describe the
anchorages behind Sandy Hook.



The chart shows a spit of land at the upper end of the shallow cove.
It has been submerged for many years now, but is still there. Use your
depth sounder and approach slowly below the middle of the cove.

There may be a white and orange state marker near the end of the
former spit. The cove is a pleasont place to anchor on a summer night,
but can get crowded on Saturday night. Shallow draft boats go closer
to the beach. Some of the motor boats are likely to leave in the
evening, but if they are on the beach that doesn't help the crowding
for sailboats.
