Default List of WiFi spots on the ICW

Anyone know of, or have the resources to start, a list of spots on the
ICW where a public WiFi system is available while at anchor?
Would be pretty helpful to all,

Mike.

I heard this weekend on Kim Komando that she has a list of
56,000 WiFi hotspots. Suggest you check out her website at
www.komando.com

AS of this week.....You can use the WiFi network at Charleston's Ashley
Marina for free from any computer in range. Charleston City Marina has a
WiFi network, but you have to stop by the office and PAY for a
username/password so you can PAY for internet service beyond your dock
fees.

I doubt Ashley Marina's network will survive the condoization process. Our
boating friends decided $125,000 + $200/mo "regime fee" + whatever else
they want to assess you for when they run out of money to blow...was a bit
much and have already moved, or are in the process of moving.

Imagine the law suit these webpages will generate if the deal doesn't close
to the original owner, whos business is now ruined by the announcement.

I don't think I know any other Charleston marina that provides WiFi
service. Both these marinas are in the Ashley River where the ICW turns
South out of the harbor, to starboard headed South

Oh, almost forgot. If you come up the Ashley River at Charleston to
Riverbend and anchor out near my house, you can use W4CSC on cable
broadband for free like the boys at the air force base do. My wifi router
is 50' up a tree under an inverted bucket to keep it out of the rain.
Works about 1/2 mile. Further if you use a Pringle's Can microwave
antenna:

Many boaters should build these little coffee can or Pringle's can antennas
if their WiFi box has an antenna connector. Being a directional beam, you
can extend the range a long way at the dock.

I did a quick calculation of return on investment, assuming slip rental
prices similar to up here. ROI sucks. Even without the condo fees, it's
down in the 4% range. It's not an investment, it's a write-off, but it
looks like those incredibly expensive lockers are selling. (bottom
belongs to the state.)

Doubting anyone will set up a WiFi node on Harkers Island anytime soon,
I just use my cell phone as a modem. Slow, but it's always there. See
you at Cape Lookout this summer?
