The words inexpensive and teak do not usually appear in the same
sentance. There are lots of teak sources, none inexpensive unless you
can find a good scrap bin somewhere.

You are not going to find good straight grained teak for under about $10/bd
ft unless you are buying a whole bunch and it gets even more expensive in
wider dimentions. How much do you need and in what lengths and widths?

Actually, I have seen several places where scrap teak is kept and is
offered for sale at a good price. Fawcett Boat Supply in Annapolis
maintains a bin of scrap teak for sale.

So does Brewer's Hardware/Woodworking Shop in Mamaroneck, NY. They
sell it by the pound and you can sometimes find usable pieces for a
small project.

There is a difference but that dosn't make much difference. (pardon the
Yogism) SE Asian teak, especially old growth Burmese, is considerably
closer grained than plantation grown Centeral American teak but there is a
ban on importing Burmese teak and when you do find it it is WAY more
expensive.

It also makes a difference how it is cut. Vertical grain is best for most
boat uses but quarter sawing reduces yield so the boards cost more. I
ordered 500 bd ft from East Teak's South Carolina yard and paid an average
of $7/bd.ft. I limited my quarter sawn to 100' of 5/4 2x6s for the cap
rails and cut all the deck strips, veneers and small parts from much cheaper
2x2 balks. Resawn across the grain the balks yielded about 90% vertical
grain.

The reason I asked how much he needed and in what sizes is that I have a
couple of balks left that I couldn't get a straight grain out of but might
be good for trim.
