Default east coast cell phones

As I'll be moving my boat most likely to either NC or SC in the spring, I'd
like to find out who has the best coverage for that area?

My personal experience has been with Sprint. They have excellent
coverage up and down the I-95 corridor (with the exception of Maine).
With the right combination of cell phone, Sprint service options
(PCS), software and cables, it is possible to surf the web with
halfway decent speed.
