In the meantime, we have a new 73# Rocna anchor on the way (I'll have a for-sale on my 75# CQR knockoff here shortly, once I get the pictures up and my spiel written), which will involve some modification (extra parts, and better end result, to boot) of our newly brilliant anchor roller system, due to the roll bar on the Rocna otherwise impacting our cage, plus running backstays for the staysail which never had any, this week. I'm also sourcing, thence to install, the various other things (like a new VHF antenna for the arch, hardware for the new cockpit table, 3/8 teak-and-holly to replace the forward-head-area cutouts due to rot [forward shower leak remediation in the galleries], casting of new chocks, and a few other things) which need to be done before we leave :{)) L8R Skip and crew -- Morgan 461 #2 SV Flying Pig KI4MPC See our galleries at www.justpickone.org/skip/gallery ! Chinese crap steel - owners tried to pretend it happened behind their backs but it seems not. I would assume it's been stopped by now? |

Hi, all,
Changing the title so this thread doesn't ENTIRELY go off the rails... Rocna put out a recall notice which was complete in its explanation of the shank difficulties alleged/alluded to by another poster here. In my mind, though I'll not be affected by it, they have properly and adequately dealt with the issue. Look it up, if you're concerned. I've resolved any potential concern for myself (and it's not my job to educate you or quash rumors for any concerns or issues you may have) and the batch of mild steel which mistakenly made it into some anchors is no longer an issue - certainly, to me. Thanks for the heads-up. If your Rocna is several years old, you would do well to look up the document and exercise the very generous provisions therein for yourself. Hi there, Unfortunately there are no unique identifiers on the affected anchors. However, this issue only affected a small number of anchors made at the start of 2010, and our expectation (and our experience) is that these anchors have long been sold. For further assurance, I would recommend speaking to your local chandlery and asking them to confirm when they received their Rocna stock from our North American distributor. If it was in 2011, then this is well outside the affected time period. You may also be interested to know that independent testing has confirmed that all Rocna anchors, including those from the beginning of 2010 with shanks that do not meet the design manufacturing specifications, do not pose any safety concerns, still exceed industry classification proof load strength requirements by over four times, and can withstand loads greater over twice than that of the nominal breaking strength of the recommended G40 (high test) connecting chain. To reiterate, these anchors represent no safety issue.
