Dilution is the solution to pollution
Sailing closehauled with 2 reefs in the main and 3 in the jib and just
fetching along the coast of Maine on a crystal clear fall day returning from my third trip of the season to West Quoddy Head or beyond, I had a thought. Knowing that there are many of us out here experiencing things like this has got to be far more aggravating to the public library WiFi bound creeps in this newsgroups than silence. While I don’t believe the post title for a minute in regard to industrial chemicals, I think it is applicable here. This, along with some private email contacts from people I’ve enjoyed communicating with here, has made me decide to drop in again. It’s been a good summer of cruising. I started a long cruise in May only a few days after launch. Cruise track with photo album link he http://www.rogerlongboats.com/RVStrider.htm The story of this cruise became the feature story in the current “Point East” magazine which can be read at: http://www.pointseast.com The new issue will be at this link soon but, if you open it you can move your cursor over to the left and bring up the PDF archive of the September issue and read the story. I did a lot less day sailing this summer due to having the boat on a mooring but had some very nice short cruises. I did another long downeast cruise in August which finally got me into Canada and Passamaquoddy Bay. Story and photo links he http://www.rogerlongboats.com/2009August.htm I then turned right around and did it again in September, primarily in order to conduct another round of the water sampling for the UNH carbon studies. http://www.rogerlongboats.com/2009September.htm So, I’ve run about 2000 miles of water under Strider’s keel according to the GPS tracks and there’s still a good deal of sailing season left. Strider has run all summer with no significant breakdowns or problems aside from a balky shower diverter valve in the head and needing to reattach a mounting pad for one of the wind vane steering lines. Life is good up here in the state of Maine. |

Meanwhile we are busy planning our "next big cruise" for the winter, hopefully to the BVI and beyond. Stay tuned! The planning process is half the fun: getting the charts and cruising guides together; arranging insurance; studying the customs procedures for various countries; testing all the critical boat systems; etc, etc. |

Welcome back Cotter, I mean Roger... Now you just need to get away from the
east coast, if nothing more than to extend your sailing season.. "Roger Long" wrote in message ...
