Dilution is the solution to pollution
 

Sailing closehauled with 2 reefs in the main and 3 in the jib and just
fetching along the coast of Maine on a crystal clear fall day
returning from my third trip of the season to West Quoddy Head or
beyond, I had a thought. Knowing that there are many of us out here
experiencing things like this has got to be far more aggravating to
the public library WiFi bound creeps in this newsgroups than silence.
While I don’t believe the post title for a minute in regard to
industrial chemicals, I think it is applicable here. This, along
with some private email contacts from people I’ve enjoyed
communicating with here, has made me decide to drop in again.

It’s been a good summer of cruising. I started a long cruise in May

I did a lot less day sailing this summer due to having the boat on a
mooring but had some very nice short cruises.

I did another long downeast cruise in August which finally got me into
Canada and Passamaquoddy Bay. Story and photo links he

I then turned right around and did it again in September, primarily in
order to conduct another round of the water sampling for the UNH
carbon studies.

So, I’ve run about 2000 miles of water under Strider’s keel according
to the GPS tracks and there’s still a good deal of sailing season
left. Strider has run all summer with no significant breakdowns or
problems aside from a balky shower diverter valve in the head and
needing to reattach a mounting pad for one of the wind vane steering
lines. Life is good up here in the state of Maine.

Welcome back Roger, good to hear from someone who is out there doing a
lot of cruising. We miss Maine, wish it wasn't such a long trip from
FL.

Meanwhile we are busy planning our "next big cruise" for the winter,
hopefully to the BVI and beyond. Stay tuned! The planning process
is half the fun: getting the charts and cruising guides together;
arranging insurance; studying the customs procedures for various
countries; testing all the critical boat systems; etc, etc.
