Hi everyone, I need a replacement foredeck hatch for my 1963 28 foot Owens. It's the type that is metal, round with glass in it and has 3 arms protecting the glass. I dropped the anchor on it, bent 2 arms and fractured the glass which now leaks. The boat is a full restoration so I would prefer an exact replacement if possible. If you know of one, or of a boat being parted out or of any other soure, please let me know. I think the hatches were all the same on these boats over a period of 6 years, so my chances of finding one aren't too remote. Just remove INVALID from the email address to reply. I live in southern Florida so if you are in the area I can drive over to pick it up. Thanks, Ron Wilson Replace it with this. Only 75 dollars on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Mickey-Mouse,-Toilet-Seat,-Cut-Aluminum-Design!_W0QQitemZ370134895859QQcmdZViewItem It would look real nice on your garbage scow. Wilbur Hubbard There's always a wise guy in the crowd and I guess you are him. I bought my boat 8 years ago, she was in pretty bad shape. Fortunately, the wood was in pretty good shape. I stripped her down completely and replaced or restored everything over a period of 4 years. I must have put in over 2,000 hours of work into her, it payed in satisfaction and not in dollars. In 2005 I fired up the new Chevy 327 in her and took her out for the first of a series of sea trials. No leaks, just a few things shaking loose. I'm sure if you could see her you would regret your Mickey Mouse toilet seat comments. If you find a hatch let me know, I'll buy you a new toilet seat. Ron Wilson And there's always a jerk in every crowd who thinks IDLE SPEED/NO WAKE zones don't apply to him and his big wake producing boat. Nobody else really cares about your project boat. What people like to see is a responsible boater who obeys the law. And get some water lift mufflers on that thing. It makes enough noise to wake up the dead. Wilbur Hubbard You don't let up do you? If people weren't nice and didn't care I wouldn't be getting some very helpful advice from people would I? I always go through no wake zone at less than 4 knots, except on one ocassion. I had some bad fuel and had to run it at higher RPM to keep from stalling. There was a wake in the marina and I posted a notice at the club house offering to pay for any damages. No one made any claims until 3 weeks later when someone whose boat wasn't in the marina or even within a quarter mile of the incident claimed my wake broke his onboard notebook computer. He was obviously taking advantage of my goodwill so I refused to pay. Next thing I know he's taking me to court. It was cheaper to pay him than to go to court so I did. Other than that I exercise extreme care for others. Mufflers are not original equipment on the boat and can cause more problems than they fix. I also happen to enjoy the sound of the engine. Are you always so cranky? Lighten up a bit before you get an ulcer. If you find a hatch for me I'll get you some Pepto-Bismol for your stomach and some Midol for your cramps. Ron Wilson |
