Default Chain primer.

What is the primer for new galvanized chain? I'm looking for a primer I
can use without paint over it, since paint normally chips off. Yellow
primer would be great.

Zinc Chromate is normally used for galvanized metal, it's yellow.
However it's generally a bitch to keep paint on a chain that is used.

As you've been told, zinc chromate is standard but isn't useful either.
It's purpose is to prime before painting - not be a top coat. The zinc
on the chain is what protects the chain from corrosion - not paint or
primer over it. Leave it bare.

Zinc is a sacrificial surface coat on chain. If you paint
it, the parts where the paint wears off (guess where?)
will lose their coating fast, then here comes the rust.

So I fancy you would do better to leave it alone.
That's the advice for HOT-DIP anyway....
