I have one of the first type (blue plastic bendable) and don't really find
it that useful. I certainly wouldn't trust it to hold a curve while transferring it from lofting to wood. (too flexible) For the same reason, I don't trust it to generate a really fair curve; smooth, yes, but fair, no. Rip out some wooden battens, and note that since you don't insist on a constant radius of curvature, the width can be thinner where the curve is more severe.
