Default Soggy cushions... throw, dry, or re-stuff???

1959 40' SeaSkiff #SK-40-164

Recently re-did all the cushions, I don't know whether closed or open
cell foam. Only hint is the guy was reputable. They then ended up
underwater for 10 days.

Looking for options on how to dry out and remove the smell. Unstapling
them; soaking in a mild soap / bleach; and drying the padding seems
simple enough... but what about reassemble..

There is nothing to grab to stretch cuz the material overhang is
trimmed. Can the covering be heated... to make it stretchy? Special
tools... or should I drop them off at a Upholsterer?

Many thanks.

Sorry to hear that. The problem is all the critters that moved in while
they were underwater. All those little microorganisms have died in
there and are smellin' up the joint. Also, if you were in salt water,
you've got salt in there, which is hydroscopic, and will be forever
wet. If the foam is open cell, you might be able to soak in fresh water
several times with maybe a little bleach to get all that crap out.
Closed cell you should just be able to wash off, but the same stuff is
soaked into the vinyl's backing, etc. You may only be able to salvage
the foam, since you'll have to take them apart to do this. Not a good
prognosis in either case. Try one and see what happens, but you may
have to just trash them and get them re-made. Good luck.

Damn... thanks Keith... the only good news is it was freshwater.. and
in late spring before too many critters were around.

I'll give it a go...

At least you can use the old vinyl as a pattern. Might make the new
cushions cheaper?

You can buy a product called Consan kTriple Action Twenty at most
hardware and grocery store. Just spray and let dry. Should remove all
order. Spray both pieces pieces. If necessary do twice. Use it all
the time. Will kill mold and mildew.
