Default Epoxy or Poly resin?

Hi,

I need to plug a hole in the transom of my boat (used to be the outlet
of the furnace - about 2" diameter). I was going to use a plywood plug
epoxied in, but realized I wouldn't be able to use gelcoat to match the
existing finish, because it wouldn't stick to the epoxy (correct?)

Should I use poly resin instead? Any other ideas? or will the gelcoat
stick to the epoxy?

Lloyd,
Gelcoat will stick to epoxy as long as you rough it up first. Plug the
hole with the plywood which has been primed with epoxy, epoxy it over and
let dry. Sand with 80 grit then 120 and apply gelcoat with peel-ply over it
(or saran wrap). This will make final sanding much easier.
MTCW...
