New to group, Hi
I have heard that the diesel engines from the refrig units on tractor trailers can be economically converted to inboard motor use. Anyone know if this is valid? |

Hi Stu...
Perkins 50 H.P. diesels were used for refer trucks and were once a common source for blocks.. You kinda have to be a mechanic though...... What kind of boat do you have? Capt. Mack www.gosailnow.com |

I think 50 H.P. is too big for my application. I am building a 16ft fishing boat and my heritage requires me to do everything at the absolutely cheapest level. Although I am not a diesel mechanic per se, I have for the aforementioned reason done a lot of wrenching and rebuilding. My thought is that in the long run an inboard diesel would be a lot cheaper to operate and my speed demon days are long behind me.
