![]() Hey Bob, I'm going to take trip across the continent via train. I'd like you're recommendations for a camera that powers up quickly, has a decent optical zoom, 3 to 5 mega pixel, uses SD memory and of course is practically free! Thanks Marty |

Thanks Marty Marty, no P&S is very fast, but the cheap Panasonic Luminix models are okay. Same with the Casios. Try to buy a model that takes AA's since that will give you better control over things. Proprietary batteries offer longer life, but when they die you dead in the water until you can recharge. You probably won't go for it, but about 500 bucks can buy you a Nikon D40 and a 18-55 lens. This small DSLR and lens combo will end up being more of a bargain than the cheaper P&S model since it will return far nicer results, react instantly and shoot 800 photos on a single charge! It's quite small and easier to use than most P&S models. Plus you can expand it as you wish. My father, using it for the very 1st time on the Galapagos Islands came back with shots like this: http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p679084148-5.jpg http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p485567708-5.jpg Cheers, R. |

Now if I can just find someone selling a good used D-40... Cheers Marty |

Now if I can just find someone selling a good used D-40... Cheers Marty Marty, you can get the D40 with 18-55 lens, 2 GB memory card and free ship/no tax from Buydig.com for 469.00. They are a very good authorized seller. Used they are usually 50-100 bucks cheaper, so you're really better buying new and get a fresh camera with warranty. I know a lot of people have a tough time paying more than 150 dollars for a camera, but this would be money well spent and it would serve you well. If you don't have the money lying around (due to fixed income or whatever) it's still worth saving up for. If you're set on the P&S model, this might be a good pick.... http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/ls70.html I bought a couple as gifts and they do fairly well. |

Thanks again Bob, the last camera I bought, 2003, was about 250 bucks, 470 from a US store is going to go to more like 600 by the time it gets up here, GST + PST + Shipping + Brokerage..... But I'll see what I can do locally. Now don't go getting snide.. Cheers Marty |
