I also know more about clissical music, photography, painting, classic literature and of course film of any generation. You mean classical music? When was the last time you saw James Galway? When was the last time you went to a private concert at a conservatory? Painting? When was the last time a curator invited you into the museum's storage area to see & discuss master works not on public display? When was the last time this happened to you in a Paris museum? Literature? What do you consider "classic literature"? Tell us the last 3 books you read, Bubbles. I don't know or care anything about photography or "film" (movies, right?). Sitting around being entertained is not a priority for me. ... The fact that my wife didn't force me to buy a powerboat is simply the last straw for you, ?? You mean my wife, who is one of the best spinnaker crews in our area?. .... I'm going sailing this afternoon after I install a new main (which I sold) on a Hunter 43. Wow! You know how to "install" new sails!! Have fun powering around! We're having lots of fun, thanks. It's been a great cruise so far. You? DSK |

When was the last time you went to a private concert at a
conservatory? My ex-girlfriend held a private trio in her home just two weeks ago, Doug. But I don't view someone's interest in classic music as anything that requires live performances. I have friends that prefer great historical recordings for example...and for very gooid reason. Like me, they invest is remarkable systems to hear that music daily. That speaks more about musical passion than just going to dinner and a show. Just about everyone I know likes that and has enough casual interest in classical works to enjoy it. Pony up, boy! Painting? When was the last time a curator invited you into the museum's storage area to see & discuss master works not on public display? Well, let's see....not in a while. When my father retired we pretty much stopped going to anything behind the scenes. But I've seen stuff that few others have, such as 31 privately owned Picaso drawings that have never been on display or loan. I've seen the Copper Man. I am currently talking with my dealer friend about possibly buying a Lautrec drawing in the near future. I almost went through with such a purchase a few years ago. Now I'm considering it again. Literature? What do you consider "classic literature"? None of the last three books I read were "classic", but they we Man in the High Tower, Reclaiming History and Get a Life by William Shatner. I don't know or care anything about photography or "film" (movies, right?). Sitting around being entertained is not a priority for me. Your attitute about it is pathetically limited. Of course it takes far more investment in time and mental faculty to understand a film like Pan's Labynth or The Draughtman's Contract that trailer trash is willing to invest. But just stare at a painting for 3 minutes and you're oh-so-sophistcated. Interesting that most modern great artists don't feel as you do about film.I suppose that's because many were involved with it on various levels. You mean my wife, who is one of the best spinnaker crews in our area?. But not on YOUR boat, Doug. You just don't get that she removed your balls and pocketed them. She is why you don't have that C&C you showed her. She is why you turn a key and power off like a anyone towing an airstream. You'll NEVER live it down. Wow! You know how to "install" new sails!! Yup. I've been getting steady training in sail construction as well. Next week I'll be getting a new genoa for Heart of Gold made from a new material. I'll be one of 9 boats flying such a sail and I'll be paying zero for it. I'll be posting info and pics in another thread about it. I'm on the inside now, Doug. I have professional relationships and friendly ones in the sailing world. I look out and see many types of sailors out there. Most are really sweet nice people who have a sense of humor about themselves and their lifestyles. But every now and again we run into your sort. You're a customer so we treat you well, but we all know what you are...and who you are. I'm way over your head now, Doug. It doesn't make me a better sailor, but you can bet your ass anyone who knows me would prefer me for company on their boat and listen more closely to what I have to say. In other words...enjoy your trawler, Doug. I mean that. We're having lots of fun, thanks. It's been a great cruise so far. You? I didn't sail today because I felt the Dutchman system on the 43 needs to be cut off and I didn't want my rigger to go aloft due to wind and wake action. Sailing tomorrow and Sunday and perhaps doing a long weekend after that. I've taken one 3 cruise on a Grand Banks 42. After that I decides that it's not really cruising. Cruising is for sailboats. I'm glad that it's fun for you, but as you might notice the rest of us have SAILboats, Doug. Our wives cared. And that's the way it is. RB 35s5 NY |

What a backpedal. Nothing you've said indicates the you yourself have any knowledge of classical music.... BTW what's the difference between classical & baroque? If you consider going to a concert by one of the all-time greats such as James Galway or Itzhak Perlman as "dinner & a show" then you should give your ticket to somebody who can appreciate it. Painting? When was the last time a curator invited you into the museum's storage area to see & discuss master works not on public display? Well, let's see....not in a while. Yeah I bet. Picasso was an outstanding genius but he wasted most of his life & his talent being Picasso. The most impressive work of his that I've seen was in the Picasso museum in Paris, a small collage of a bullfight. When you look at it the first time, it looks like a colored paper & tinfoil collage of a bullfight scene. When you look closely, you realize it's a painting... and that it's extraordinarily realistic. Now tell us about any exhibits of Renoir or Van Gogh or Breughel etc etc you may have seen & remembered. None of the last three books I read were "classic", but they we Man in the High Tower, Reclaiming History and Get a Life by William Shatner. "Man in the High Tower" could be considered a classic by some sci-fi fans. Not his best IMHO. I don't know or care anything about photography or "film" (movies, right?). Sitting around being entertained is not a priority for me. Your attitute about it is pathetically limited. Not really. I have a lot of other things to do with my life. You seem to be rather bitter, Bubbles, and you certainly have a negative view of marriage. Do you mean that you only have a boat because your wife lets you? Wow! You know how to "install" new sails!! Yup. I've been getting steady training in sail construction as well. Next week I'll be getting a new genoa for Heart of Gold made from a new material. I'll be one of 9 boats flying such a sail and I'll be paying zero for it. Now all you have to do is learn to actually sail. DSK |
