Not bad Bubbles. I bought my daughter a new MX5 and unfortunately can't get her out of it so I can have a drive :-) Pity you don't get the Mitsu product we get here Mines a higher spec than the one shown here with full leather trim and When it comes to shear performance, the top car here is the Mitsubishi Evo, but that builder's entries in the USA is still experiencing quality control issues that keep many away. A Subaru STI is a monster in itr's own right, but neither the Evo or STI are really well suited for daily drivers with kids. Even with the 274 HP, the Speed6 has flaws. I noticed that power flattened out above 5000 RPM and the clutch is a bit touchy, though Suzanne liked the 6 speed. For a four with a turbo there's amazing torque on tap above 2000 RPM and the AWD hookup will leave even faster rear wheel drivers in the dust of the line. At 130 MPH the car is rock stable, but I have yet to drive on faster. On a twisty back road (all we have here in Carmel), I found handling to be equal to the Subaru WRX in capability, but the car was more confident and relaxed. The STI and WRX handle just fine, but often feels more daring than it should. They can be a bit twitchy on their short wheelbases. I don't want to say that the Speed6 is "better" because they are really different animals and the boy-racer set will always love the Subaru and Evo. We'll have the car next week and I'll post a few pics. About 1200 dollars in light mods can boost to over 300 HP, but I think the car is plenty fast as it stands. A new Speed6 is due in 2009, which is not far off. I hope Mazda steps it up in a major way so I can trade in. I wonder how Sloco's lame-from-day-one Lincoln is doing. It's no joke that my Sedona van is faster! RB 35s5 NY |

Are you saying that a Porsche GT3 or Turbo is slower and less-quick than an Evo. How about a Dodge Viper, Saleen S7, or Corvette ZO6? I think even a BMW M3 (07) or an M5 (06) will dust your Evo or WRX. You can talk about hot econo-boxes all day long, but the real muscle isn't cheap or at your local Japanese car dealership. By the way, Bubbles, I just placed an order for an '07 Lotus Exige Sport. Should be here in about 8 weeks. Black on black. Max |

None of these cars are so different in speed that they'll dust each other and I'll always prefer the AWD launch over rear wheel in spite of the small weight penalty. In fact they are so close in speed that small mods to any will give a leg up. RB 35s5 NY |

The WRX Sti has 300+ hp, while the M5 has over 500 bhp and the new, soon-to-be-released M3 has a 440 bhp V-8, and the car weighs less than the previous M3. Doubtful an Sti would stay with either, even on a closed course. Max |

And just for a comparison to my AWD Speed6 family sedan....which is a more comfortable car than either the M5 or STI.... 2006 Mazda MAZDASPEED 6, 5.4 13.9 (C&D Feb '06) RB 35s5 NY |

The M5 beats the Sti every time. That would certainly qualify as "dusting." A 400cc motorcycle will better those figures. Sorry, Bubbles. Max |
