Sure do! But look at poor Joe spinning on the hook like I never left!
So far he's blowing off about speaking Spanish and boxing in the
service! Joe's a hoot! The poor guy is STILL talking about buying the
right boat and meanwhile I'm enjoying mine and his is STILL dockside!
The right boat would have been the one he'd have sailed until he
bought his "blue water" boat. He's the classic infinit refit story!
And I'll be sailing this weekend while Joe looks for a new compass for
his wheelhouse....can't set off for blue water without that "perfect"
compass, right, Joe????

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!

At least Joe takes the cover off his compass when he sails . . .

Wilbur Hubbard

Why is that always necessary?

It looks good to the lubbers, Oz. Sort of like spinning that big 6' radar
scanner array when entering a marina on a clear, bright, sunny day.

Max,
There are good reasons to use your compass all the time.
This takes a bit of knowledge and time at sea to understand the
reasoning and whys.

Something dumb weekend warriors and half assed day sailors like
Bubbles will never understand ....until it's to late.

Thats why Suzy moved you out into the sticks.

Actually we moved here for Thomas, but then you don't know how
wonderful life is with kids.

Did not expect a burn, but beats the hell out of frostbite.

Yeah, that skin cancer is great. Learn to use sunscreen.

Unlike you Bubbles I've had about 17 yrs of constant crusing on
boats
worth 100 times what all your property added together cost.

Uh, so? They werem't yours. I've been aboard some fine boats and
yachts and now I own one that's perfect for us. Maybe someday you can
do the same.

I know you think thats the most exotic cool thing on
earth, but thats because you never get more than a few miles from the
dock.

Sorry to say that I don't find cruising long distances exotic. I'd
rather fly. As for sailing, I like a fun comfortable boat with a good
turn of speed and that's what we own. You own a heavy slow tub of a
motorsailor that never leaves the dock.

Hell my wife has a 100 ton ocean operators ticket,
which is about 100 times the sea time you have ever seen bubble boy.

I'm sure we're all very impressed with your time at sea, but wasn't
that your job?

My cheap flaoting hotel is worth more than that cheapo dime a
dozen
boat your wife owns. And will outlast it, and out sail it.

Worth more? I dunno. Finding a buyer for your boat could be tough. As
for sailing performance, stop it already. If you know anything about
boats you know full well my boat outpoints, outruns and outsails your
tub in everything but very heavy weather.

Yeah, you have been restoring that Limey junker for 5 years now.

Nope, this is the second one. I made 11K on the last one. But now that
I have room for more cars I want another. I'm also checking out a
Lotus Elise in a few weeks.

No problem bubbles, I would rather not have you envy anything I
have
thank you very much.

Well, wish granted!

Sure Bubbles what ever, better get out of ASA, Suzy's on her way

As far as boat projects, I'm installing armored glass opening bronze

great and greatly improves air circulation below, also provide an
escape thru the aft cabin besides through the wheelhouse.

I'll post some pictures for you when I'm finished. I love tinkering

Finally, some truth. Bouncers: Large overwieght somewhat stupid
brutes,
it takes three or four to toss a drunk and perhaps beat senseless on
the
way out. Not much to brag about there, in fact I'd be ashamed.

A good bouncer is not looking to hit anyone or get hit by anyone. We
were paid to stop trouble, usually by quickly removing a troublemaker
and NOT hurting him. If a situation got bad, then we overpowered it
with more coolers. Simple as that. I had very few "fights" working on
the job. You're not paid to fight, hit or hurt people. When forced to
fight I did what was needed to end it fast and do a minimum of damage
to the other guy. Most of the time I was very good at it. The times I
messed up and hurt someone; those are something to learn from so it
doesn't happen again.
Hey, look at that! Yet another topic Marty knows nothing about. But
his comments about bouncers proves he's been mistreated by more than
one.

Really? On your dink? We could have sailed to Oyster Bay with a
toddler, anchored out and BBQ'ed up some chicken and steak? Suzanne
and I could have put Thomas to sleep in his own cabin and then we
could have made love in our own private cabin? In the morning we could
have motored over to the OB Town dock and let Thomas play in the park
for an hour before resuming our sail to Port Jeff to meet friends?
Then we could have met those friends and all eaten on board along with
the nice wine and cheese they brought? Then, on Sunday morning we
could have sailed back for home and Suzanne & Thomas could have sat on
the swim platform and let their feet hang in the water, kicking and
splashing? During the last couple of hours Suzanne could have taken
Thomas below and taken a sweet nap, out of the hot sun?

I KNOW we all NEED to see that dink of yours! It must be amazing!!!!!

I don't think that air conditioning is required, but I can tell you that there
was one night in Port Jeff a couple of years ago in mid-August where is WAS
horrific without it. It was during a heat wave, and it was brutal trying to
sleep. We were tempted to get a room at Danfords, but decided we could deal with
one night of intense discomfort.

I can remember a few nights that were oppressive, but the only real
brutal nights were dockside, never at anchor. And this includes
cruising through Florida. Of course, we have two large hatches
directly over the bunk, and the hulls tend to funnel any breeze up
over the deck. If I lived dockside, I would consider adding A/C, but
not for cruising.

We don't do circumnavigations, or anything like
that, so a little adversity here and there makes our adventures memorable.
Although the boat is wired for it, we have never used shore power. I'll bet you
think cruising would be horrific without THAT.

Why do people think I spend time at docks? In the last five years
cruising New England we've spent a grand total of one night onboard
dockside. I've learned that the boat is most comfortable 100 yards
out, not at the dock. Of course, launch service is a luxury I
wouldn't turn down.

Who remembers perfect conditions and no adversity? What do you remember best 10
or 20 years later? We spent one anniversary sailing home through remnants of
Hurricane Charlie. We still remember that as one of our best trips ever. It had
some great "moments" that we'll treasure for the rest of our lives.

I tend to remember the hard passages - pushing through 30 knots for
six hours, or nail biting in peasoup fog. But my wife prefers the
perfect weather, with whales and dolphins and northern lights and
shooting stars and lobsta waiting Down East. Go figure.

Mine is an ex factory car with a genuine race history, one of only 17

from its 2litre supercharged engine.
It's worth every penny I paid for it both to me (I've been chasing one
for nearly 10 years) and as a collectors car.

I'll be racing it on the very rare event, did about 30 laps at Laguna
Seca a couple of weeks back and loved every second.

You mentioned the Super 7, I have a modern 7, one of these

80% complete in my garage.
It's fitted with a 2L Ford Zetec slightly worked and dry sumped and a

Been building it for 3 years now and it'll be quite something when
done, capable of 0-60mph in just over 4 secs hopefully.

Looks very similar to the Lotus in my garage. And it sounds fantastic.
I've had the opportunity to own the Lotus, but I've deferred, knowing the
current owner won't be able to replace it, regardless of his adamant
insistence that he will. I won't take advantage of him, but I'd love to
race the car in clubman events. I will, however, buy his prodified Viper
next year when he retires it from SCCA events. Can't wait.

hold off the vermin for a week.

What a total asshole.

But
his comments about bouncers proves he's been mistreated by more than
one.

Ouch! I've got you pegged pretty well eh? You must have been a great
disappointment to your mother.

Top that off with bouncing people for horse play. First he states he
bounced a golden Glove champ for "kicking" a girl, then later says she
was pulling his hair. So him and 4 of his buds escort the guy out...
and Robbie brags he did not break the poor fellows arms.

How pathetic.

Personally I don't believe a word of what he types, the closest he's
ever been to a bouncer was getting thrown out of some bar for making
obnoxious remarks and smelling the joint up with his bowel problems.
Golden Gloves champ my ass. You ever see any of Sugar Ray's films when
he was Golden Gloves, he'd take out four bouncers before they could say
"ID please".

I doubt anyone really does. I was never a bouncer, but I've known two.
Neither was particularly big, imposing, or agressive.

One was of moderate height and weight, and when I saw him in action, 99% of
the time he screened people at the door before they even got to the bar
area/dance floor. This was in San Diego, so he would get a fair number of
military and bikers. He was always polite, even with drunks, but no one
usually got that far, because they would be cut off early. It was a strip
club, and no one wanted trouble with the cops. If anyone started to get out
of control, they were almost immediately surrounded by the bartenders and my
friend, and directed to the door. He thought the biggest problem was after
hours, when the women were trying to get to their cars. Sometimes he had to
call the cops.

The other guy was about 5'2" tall at the most. His name was Kenny. I use to
manage a minor Jazz/Fusion band in the late 70s down in San Diego, and he
was typically along for the ride as a roady... he was friends with the bass
player. I watched him walk up to Chargers linebacker or some such huge guy
who was at the bar screaming obscenities about something, and the yelling
was so loud that it was really annoying the crowd. Kenny reached up and
tapped him on the shoulder. The guy turned around and literally didn't see
anyone because Kenny was so short. Kenny said, "Down here." So the guy looks
down. Kenny looks up and says, take your f*ckin yellin' somewhere else or
I'll f*ck you up. Just like that he said it. No yelling. The guy put down
his drink. I thought he was going to plant Kenny with one hand. Instead, he
punched his buddy's arm and said let's get out of here, then left. I think
it was all attitude that did it. In any case, it was impressive.

Boob****'s not one of them.

According to my high school history teacher, a former marine, that's why it
was adopted for the military. According to him, during the Huk rebellion in
the Philippines the guerrilla fighters were drugged up, and nearly
impossible to stop with the pistols than in use. The 45 was designed to
throw a large bullet that would stop those fighters in their tracks.

Close, the pistol you refer was the Colt M1900, chambered for the .45
ACP, the M1900 was reworked and eventually became the M1911A1. I think
you'll find that the 45-70 that Charlie is refering to is a rifle round,
commonly refered to as, surprisingly gr 45-70 Government. Got a kick
like a mule when fired from a bolt action rifle.
