I carry a seperate knife so that is not a big issue but a pair of pliers would be very handy as well as the option to have a screw driver or a pair of small scissors available. I really want one that has a one hand opening feature for the pliers because I don't want to have to let go of the boat to open the jaws in rough seas. Everything I have seen in the stores around here is pretty limited and is only two handed variety. I have seen several Gerber ones on the net that are one handed opening but I am reluctant to drop $100 on something I have never seen without any idea if it is what I actually want or if I like the tool. So what do you think and what do you use? Thanks, Bill Katy's teeth. -- Capt. JG @@ www.sailnow.com |

http://cgi.ebay.com/CASE-XX-1974-OLD...KE-KNIFE-6246-... I'm purchasing a good knife and marline spike already but a pair of pliers and a a few other small tools would be very helpful as well. The knife comes first though. |

Get a tool box, and a box of wooden toothpicks, tweezers in the medical kit, ect. Problem with swiss army knife type tools are they are usually to small and weak to do any real job. I've had several stainless multi tools, spike, pliers, screw driver, ect and ended up tossing them all, usually after destroying them , or what I was working on. Joe |

Bill,
I kind of agree with Joe. I replaced my fancy Bone Handle Spike/knife with a $15. riggers knife with a serrate 1/2 blade and regular that had a shackle key. and a second marlin spike. My old blade wouldn't cut the new fiber lines. It served me well for over a Dozen years. It was so good I gave it to the new owners when I sold the Boat. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomJazz |
