Happy Days for us, sad ASA'ers

Wow....here I've been out of the group (and will remain so) for months
and I see Gayzy, Scotty Potty and some of the regulars still treading
the trailer trash waters of mediocrity. How dull.
Fortunately folks like myself have been working hard to make life more
fun every day! So here's what the deal is for the crew of Heart of
Gold!!!

1) Yes, we now own a house in Carmel, with two and a half acres of
woods. We are 15 minutes from town, but the houses near us are also
NYC escapees who are raising their kids in a safer place, yet still
just an hour away from the best museums, concert halls and stages in
the world; The best of both worlds. Thomas is so happy here, it's hard
to describe. This morning we walked in the woods, then went over to
our stream and threw twigs into the rushing water, which you can
drink. After that we visited a memorial park with it's private beach,
horseback ridding and summer outdoor movies and concerts, but there
are a lot of parks like that here. We are surrounded by lakes and
everyone here has a sunfish or some kind of small sailboat, canoe or
dink. There are plenty of kids around for Thomas and we just bought
him an elaborate cedar swingset/fort that probably cost more than
Scotty and Jeff's homes combined.

2) Heart of Gold just got a free engine overhaul....cleaned injectors,
fluids and so on. She launches in about a week. Our club is an extra
20-25 minutes of driving, but we don't have to cross the Whitestone or
Throgsneck, so it's a far nicer drive.

3) We have a house that someone like poor Scotty Potty could only
dream of. More than 2000 Sq. feet and four bedrooms along with a lower
level that we just remodeled after pulling the lolly columns. That
large 16X23' family room will get a 136 inch screen with a new Optoma
projector plus there is also a 56 inch HD TV built flush into the
wall. Sound will come from SVS subs and Revel speakers. The acoustics
in the room appear to totally flat and this system sounds amazing and
it's not even fully set up yet! Also downstairs is the laundry room
which is a whopping 12X14. It's too big for it's purpose, so we'll add
a 3rd bathroom there to compliment the lower guest room. The house may
be a tad large for a family of three, but we'll have friends and
family stay over often. Of course it's not the size, but the quality
and condition of this home that makes it so nice along with how it was
sighted by the fellow who built it.

So that's it. Yes, my life is still better than yours and I'll make
love to my lovely wife tonight while the rest of you download American
Idol clips. Oh, and we sold all of the cars except for the Kia Sedona.
We're going to try a BMW 330 XI AWD if we can ever get a reasonable
delivery date. The Sedona remains too useful to trade away from.

On the future boat front: We're going to visit the C&C plant mid-
summer. We have no solid plans and love our boat, but Suzanne is
determined to see me get that 99 that I like so much. NO hurry though
and I just added a sweet new asym to Heart of Gold that should make
her dance even better in light air.

So we're having a blast. Every day feels like a vacation. Most of our
new furniture comes next week at last and the sailing season is about
to start. Life isn't just good....it's great.

Please don't forget that Doug, the King of Keels said that I was lying
about a J29 with a modified bulb keel. I already busted him with pics
of the boat, but I haven't forgotten that blowhard. I'll finally get
over to College Point this week and take/post pics of the bottom so
that goofball can feel like even more of an ass that Scotty Potty. And
that's a mighty big ass, even for Ganz.

Cheers!

About time your stopped using that Capt Rob bull**** title.
Glad all is great for you Rob, your Hillary fund rasing phone calls
seem to be effective.

Happy days on Roberts back porch.

Watching sticks float down the creek should make him a better sailor.

More lies. Show us that stream on any topo map or aerial photograph.

Removing lolly columns - hahaha!

More lies.

Tell us how they got that double wide up on the cinderblock foundation.

One car garage! hahahahaha!!!

A tent garage and dumpster in the front yard!

How many old tires and engine blocks are pushed over the side of the hill?

Drinking the neighbors leachfield in your water?

ahahahahahahaha!!!!!

The area he is in is riddled with small ponds, springs and streams. I'd be
surprised of he didn't have one or two little streams on his property. Only some
of those little streams are running year 'round. I wouldn't recommend drinking
the water from them. PCB's and various microscopic organisms can be somewhat
hard to see.

CWM

Yup, and we're right next to a reservoir and all of the property
around us is marked as watershed for it. The faster larger streams are
fine for drinking once in a while. Beyond the houses already here, no
one can build or modify the land. My property is all woods, rocks and
there's even a small cave. Thomas loves to walk through it all and
explore. This is the view from our enclosed deck in the back of the
house:

http://members.aol.com/bobsprit/images/house4.jpg

Down below is fairly flat wooded area. Beautiful, unless you prefer a
giant lawn....which we don't. Of course there's plenty of lawn/garden
area in front and to the right of the house.

As I said, pics will say it all and they'll be posted shortly!

This is on the way for Thomas....

I'm familiar with the area. It has many swamps and mosquitoes. I doubt there
are PCB's in his water unless they can flow uphill or if a few transformers
were thrown in with the engine blocks in the back yard. I'd check the well
water for coliforms, that nice bubbly spring (high in nitrates) may be his
neighbors septic absorption bed at the end of its life. The streams may have
giardia or toxic molds from rotting organic matter. The one stream I'd be
concerned with the most is the one that flows down the sealed driveway into
the garage. But he doesn't have to worry much. He's renting the place.

You mean like Trinity or some of the other top drawer schools that
cost 50K per year, yet have lower marks than schools in Carmel and
Mahopac? Look it up or do what we did and visit the schools. My
closest friend just pulled her daughter out of Trinity and moved to
Kent where the schools are better....and 44K less per year!

Oh....and hi, Joe! Don't get too happy. This is just a brief troll for
the losers here. How's the steel boat? Do you have plans to take off
and out for that long trip sometime soon?

Did you wonder about the span and how to calculate the loads without

With property taxes hovering around $7500/year I would expect quality
schools. You could move out of state and pay $15K/year for some of the very
best private schools, save $5000/year on property taxes and have a much
larger and nicer house.

Why couldn't you design and build a kid's gym yourself? Are you trapped in
that place now that Suzy has the only means of transportation? How many
times have you been to the boat in the last week? Sailing tapering off? Wait
until Thomas is in school 6 hrs/day. You weekdays will be shot. You will
barely sail weekends with all the house, kid and wife stuff. It's a long,
downhill slide from now out.

Doesn't matter, I assumed best case, a solid beam with no joints.

Did you wonder about the span and how to calculate the loads without
shoring up?

No wonder, max deflection allowed is 1/360th of span. Figure 20 lbs/ft^2,
hem fir 2x8 joists resting on 100lb/ft steel, 24ft span.

Hope you are good at fixing cracked drywall.

If it is a truss the load is usually supported on the foundation walls
through the exterior walls.

Please tell us why a 14.5 span with lolly poll removed led to no
cracked drywall, but the 15.5 foot one (which carried less load) will.
You're even too dumb to ask what was done in place of the lolly. Did

The fabricated plates are a better solution because you have to cut through
the top of the foundation to support an I-Beam or use columns on the ends.
However, getting the one piece plates into position is a very difficult
task, then you have to drill the wooden beam for the bolts.

There are two better architectural solutions, none of which you mentioned.

Hmmmmm??? Do you know that this had to be approved by an engineer
supplied by our insurer?

It could be approved by any licensed engineer or architect registered in the

They aren't seeing much of you down at Minneford these days are they?

Just one or two days a week as I'm brokering 6 sailboats for them.
They'll be listed in about a week and include Catalina 30, Catalina
27, J22 (This is probably sold already), Santana 30/30, Cape Dory 30,
C&C 29-2.

Still waiting to hear what's holding my beam up!!!!

Haven't you towed larger, nicer homes behind your big rig?

the boat for the last two months. I also posted both pics and videos,
remember?

I saw pictures and videos that amounted to maybe 4-6 outings. Capt Neal runs
his computer exclusively on his boat everyday. That is proof, by your
standard, that he must sail even much more than you.

As I said, you were and remain WRONG as usual. Oh, and we

Well one can't set up a mooring near Richardsville can they? What exactly
does that $7500/year in property taxes buy?

Hopefully Suzy and poor little Tom have some immediate means of
transportation while you are floundering down at the docks.

Go and look. Don't stand under it because it might fall on you. And wipe

Sure do.

Pulling the boat out this mo. for a new bottom job, anoids, and
installing 7 bronze portholes.
The porthole going aft center is 24" with 1.25" thick armoured glass,
it came off a battleship.
All the ports open which will allow a nice breeze thru the cabins.
Plus they end my concern of the forward and aft windows being blown
in in extreme seas. I had plywood shields in the sail locker that I
get to toss in the dumpster now.

One of the best things about finding the right boat to start with is
you can customize it to fit your every need.
Perhaps when Thomas finishes Collage you can get back into sailing,
maybe even get offshore and stick with a boat long enough to
understand what I'm talking about.

Need to visit the plasma cutting shop today and pick up my templates.
We will cruise around the Texas coast a bit this summer. Not taking
off for the big trip yet.

I can't imagine what the right boat to start with would be, unless
there were no changes in my life. Beautiful wife, beautiful son...and
now a new home, a lot more money to play with and more. Each boat
worked great as things changed. We're actually looking at following
thorugh on plans to adopt a child (Adoption saves a life) and if we do
that I may seek out a larger boat and skip the C&C 99, but we'll see.
Last summer while most of the people in the so-called "sailing group"
trolled and fixed their boats, we were out sailing 3 days a week.
Sometimes it was an overnighter, sometimes it was just a few hours. It
never mattered because we love sailing for the sailing itself. I hope
I never tire of that and find myself fixing up some huge boat project.
We're not Scotty Potty trailer trash. We own a sweet boat that is a
blast to sail. We have our second house, worth 100K more than we paid
in a great school area and it's 2000 Sq feet is in near mint shape. We
even have a couple of famous people living a few houses down. If I had
Scotty's life I'd shoot myself (if I could borrow bullet money).
As for you, Joe....did you ever look into adoption? Suzanne's sister
adopted 2 kids from an abusive home and literally saved them. Few
things in life could have more worth.

We pay somewhat less, but what it buys are schools that are better
than those we left behind. It buys half a dozen local lakes with
boating and sailing, snow that stays white, no traffic jams,
wonderfuls kids for Thomas to play with, a fanastic daycare center 1/2
mile away, clean streets, beautiful wooded land, roads that get snow
cleared on schedule and neighbors who all moved here for the same
reason: To raise their kids in a better place than NYC, but still
close enough to take advantage of what NYC has to offer.
Of course, if taxes are a worry for you (as someone with no boat or
good stereo MUST be counting pennies), then moving someplace better
makes no sense. Then again, you never found a woman or had a child
either. Dude...you're barley Human, even on Scotty Potty's scale!

I am in someplace better. It's not the New York metropolitan area either.

It looks the same. But now it is all he can afford. He's on the ropes
financially. His friends will take care of his boat for him, Suzy won't give
him much minivan time. Property tax is more than his dock fee. Little Tom's
play set cost more than his sails.

And in Mystic? How many miles up the river is that?

How many more miles further away than City Island?

Even less sailing time for sure.

Less income too, Suzy is no longer the lead cardiologist for a world class
cardiology clinic.

And weren't you the fella who was telling us about what great wind you
have
in the Western Sound?

At least there will be less sewage afloat in Mystic.

At least he can watch over the air Yankee games (WPIX) where he is at.

He's moved out to the fringe, soon the isolation will really start to set
in. Manhatten and its cultural opportunities (not that he ever went) will
become another, distant place. The long drive to the city will grow old and
longer. He and Suzy will no longer be distracted from each other. Spats will
become more frequent. And then the king and the queen can never go back to
the green...

So a mooring is starting to look a bit better to you now?

Hell no. We'll only go because our friend has nice house there and
that's where my MG-TF is being restored. We'll visit a few times. No
way would I ever give up the ease/fun of a slip and also Suzanne's
folks are getting on in years, but still like to come sailing. A
dinghy or launch would not be easy for them. Of course some folks need
to save and the slip is really pricey for most. Easily twice what you
pay, but it's worth it...even if I had to pay. This year we got even
more sailboats in, defecting from NYYC, Harlem and Capri.....all nice
clubs, but slips are sweeter. Last season my ex brought her boat in
for the last two months and she admitted she used the boat more. She
sailed more and just spent more time playing on board because a dock
is that much more convenneint.
Moorings are for trailer trash and no crappy restaurant (that members
are forced to eat at in many cases), lack of any real services and
semi-access to a boat will convince anyone otherwise.

It is? A boat with very little value. Perhaps one should ask why the
gift was made to maintain a low profile? As I said: Dave and I have
friends in common. To put it more clearly: I know someone who's not
speaking with him now and for good reason. He knows EXACTLY who I'm
talking about too. At the very least poor Dave knows that I have him
pegged. I carry no such baggage and didn't screw up my life and
several others in the process. Know what I mean, Davey? That sure is a
sad car you drive.
Why not come clean here?
