Global Warming: The Cold, Hard Facts?

By Timothy Ball
Monday, February 5, 2007

Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn't exist. And I am not the
only one trying to

monster clip

question to ask in the real world, however I firmly believe it is the
most important question to ask
if we are to advance in the right direction.

The only thing that is absolute about global warming is that it is making
some folks rich. The leaders of anti-greenhouse gas organizations, the
scientists gobbling up federal grant money for research on gw, guys like
Al Gore, who write and publish books on the subject and get movies made
based upon their books, etc., are making money way faster than the
Earth's temperature is rising.

Global warming = big bucks.

Max

Global environmental change for the worse is happening because human
beings are so shortsighted as to ignore their own long-term best
interests.

No...humans are so short sighted that they ignore the fact that they
cannot control Mother nature and that the earth is not static and changes
constatly...the next "theiry" will be that we are somehow responsible for
the cooling of the sun.

We absolutely can affect Mother Nature. We're doing it right now with air
and water pollution.

And Mother Nature, as she always does, will take over in the end and we
will either adapt to her or we'll go the way of the dinosaurs...keep
being a sheep, Jon...air and water pollution hurt humanity...humanity
must choose to do something about that in regards to the effects it has
on health, but it hasn't much to do with historical and cyclical global
warming or cooling...

Max, it's an article of faith with these folks. Challenging their gospel
is
like urging that the Bible is not divinely inspired--you'll never get that
concession from the ultra-devout.

No. It's an article of faith in science. Rightwing nuts have no interest in
facts.

And liveral create facts out of whole cloth becasue that's the way they

All boils down to politics is big bucks...akin to what's going on in
Texas with the mandatory inoculation of little girls with an agent that
is just recently on the market and hasn't been tested by time yet. ANd
then we find that the press secretary or whatever of the governor of TX
is a former lobbyist for Merck Labs, which produces the vaccine a the
cost of hundreds per girl....politicians and science are like oil and
water...they should be kept in separate containers...

My understanding is that parents can opt their daughters out if they
decide it is either morally objectionable or against their religion. So,
what's wrong with the requirement to have young girls vaccinated against
a deadly disease?

The vaccine is unproven. You don't remember thalidomide? We are still
investigating the possibilities that MMR vaccines are respinsible for the
rise in autism. And once again, we're talking about legislation about a
sexualy transmitted condition. No sex...no cancer. Ny the time the
current crop of 11-15 year old are 18, there will be some time to sit
back and see what the actual results are from those who vilunteer to take
the risk.

Actually, the vaccine is well-proven from what I've read, and it will
save lives. The argument that it'll promote underage sexual behavior is a
scare tactic used by the religious right.

Actually it has not been in existance long enough to have withstood any
test of time...are their women out their who have been vaccinated who have
reached menarche yet? How many have had children? Have those children had
children yet to see if there is any residual genetic effect? ANd I said
nothing about sexual activity other than the comment that if you don't
have sex, you won't get papiloma virus...which is true...

Neither was the polio vaccine, but it saved countless lives. The fact is
that there exists things like rape and incest, which has nothing to do with
abstinence:

http://www.paralumun.com/issuesrapestats.htm

In part...

Somewhere in America, a woman is raped every 2 minutes, according to the
U.S. Department of Justice.
In 1995, 354,670 women were the victims of a rape or sexual assault.
(NationalCrime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S.
Department of Justice, 1996.)
Over the last two years, more than 787,000 women were the victim of a rape
or sexual assault. (National Crime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice
Statistics, U.S.Department of Justice, 1996.)
The FBI estimates that 72 of every 100,000 females in the United States
wereraped last year. (Federal Bureau of Investigation, Uniform Crime
Statistics, 1996.)

The polio vaccine is a weak argument? Rape stats are a week argument?

As far as MMR goes, there is absolutely no evidence that it causes autism.
This has been looked at over and over.

You still haven't said why it's a problem if there's an opt out for parents
who don't agree morally or on religious grounds.
