Yeah right. Gilligan I gave up the 100 ton boats because of thousands
of hours standing out in the cold, in the middle of the gulf, soaked in
salt spray chapped by freezing 20+ kt bone chilling winds off loading
cargo at drilling rigs dripping mud, drillwater, caustic soda, black
magic, ect.... ect ect...you can not tell me squat about manning the
helm out in the elements.

She is a North Sea stand by boat.

She would shuttle cargo in a field... and standby for kicks,
blow-outs, and fire evac.
Her deck is to small to supply and she has no tow gear.

Stand-by is the best work in the oil patch for a skipper IMO, even if
the boats are a bit smaller than the supply boats. I did a year or so
stand by for Mobil...best fishing in my life...work 2-3 hrs a day
shuttling cargo from platform to platform, rest of the time hanging off
the rig fishing, reading, sleeping. Caught a 220 pound warsaw grouper
one day.

That's a 50 ton boat injun..the smallest crewboat I ran was a 110
footer 98 ton triple screw..the largest was a 5 screw 165 ft...

Sounds simple to you, but a bit more involved than pivoting a boat and
ramming ****.

a headache rail/tow line bar near the stern, but see no tow winch on
deck and no stern rollers or gates or gear. Maybe you have a better
monitor, I could not see tow gear thru the mist and spray.

Many American supply and standby boats are classed as towing vessels
by doing the same thing, put a tow doubler plate at the pivot point,
and deck structures to support towing, but never put a winch on deck.

Can you guess why this was done OTN? Anyone?

If you look at the shot from behind, you can see were the water gets
deeper and all the white caps dis-appear, a 1/2 mile or soo father
offshore.....still looks like a wedge yourself in somewhere kinda trip.

Nope..... federal funding (interest free loans), as part of the loan
agreement the boats may be taken by the Navy, MM, ect for towing
service.
