Default 14-year-old set to become youngest person to sail solo acrossthe Atlantic

The teenager, from land-locked Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, set off from
Gibraltar on the 3,500-mile voyage to the Caribbean on November 18. He hopes
to reach his destination off the island of Antigua, and break the world
record for the youngest unaided sailor across the ocean, on January 2.

Such feats do not always end well:

Fortunately, not only am I an expertly trained sailor, pilot and
daredevil, I am also a member of Mensa. I attend meetings in my black
speedos and the women just go crazy.

Nellen,

You should know the old saying but I'll post it, just for your
enlightment.
" If the Lord didn't like Stupid people He wouldn'd have made so many!"

I'd like to add to that! He sure must Love You, with your Warped Mind!

Mr. Scout;

Days of real sailors capable of self reliance are all but long gone.

Not only will Daddy be tagging along, they will have a dozen GPS's,
weather faxes, shore support, telephones, internet, automatic pumps,
radar, auto pilot, epirbs, medical monitoring, and so on.

Enough to make Captain Joshua Slocum vomit, and give Robin L. Graham
the screeming ****s.

A new class of record keeping is in order. With support, and without.

The whole stunt is sickening.

Did you notice how it says *to sail solo across the Atlantic*?
Well I just looked up solo in the dictionary and it said alone and without a companion.
Having another boat and your Daddy tagging along doesn't seem alone and without
a companion to me. I think the headline's cheesy. But, that's what passes for journalism
these days.

Cheers,
Ellen

"The Tide 28s being used for the record attempt have been modified and equipped
to bring them up to Ocean standards"

So according to the manufacture the "Boat" is not actually designed to sail
in the Ocean. A boat not designed for use in the water.........I'm not
nearly as experienced in sailing and boats as many here so please explain to
me how a boat works that is not originally designed to be put in the water.

It doesn't say much for the quality of the rigging if a halyard chaffed thru
in 2 weeks.

JR

I thought it said cap shroud when I read it. That's standing rigging. Halyards are
running rigging. But it's worse having the standing rigging so flimsy it breaks that soon.

Ellen

Not only is the stunt a disgusting attempt to mar a genuine record, the
Daily News is a disgraceful rag for publishing only those views that agree
with them. I wouldn't wipe my ass with their newspaper.

Do you often get requests for that?
