I have tremendous respect for kids and adults who choose to make themselves productive and work summers, evenings, and weekends in McDonalds, etc. Why do you show disrespect for people who choose to work in less-than-optimal jobs, rather than sit around worthlessly? I guess working at McDs is better than nothing, but it's not exactly a skilled job, which is what we need to be promoting. Promoting for whom? Do you believe that no one should be doing the sort of labor that McDonalds offers? Are you willing to sacrifice the percentage of the GDP that fast food comprises, simply because we must promote better, more skilled labor to the point that no one will take such jobs? Oh wait--that's what all the undocumented aliens are for, right? Max |

Certainly, no one working with me considered it a career, but the experience was valuable. The concept of building on the opportunity in front of you seems to be lost today, primarily because kids are ridiculed for taking such jobs. It was not covered by minimum wage back then. I made sixty-five cents an hour for most of that time. Frank |

Is this something you'd like to continue to do? I'm sure there are positions
around, but I doubt you can live off the wages. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Frank Boettcher" wrote in message ... On Fri, 03 Nov 2006 05:23:18 GMT, "Maxprop" wrote: "Capt. What part of building on the opportunity in front of you did you not understand? Do you think that everyone who takes an entry level job is destined to stay there forever. From McDonalds I learned that I had to come to work on time, clean and neatly dressed. I learned that I had to be polite to the customers, even those who were rude to me. I learned that I could take it a little easy during the slow times but had to step it up during the rush. I learned that it was a low margin, competitive business, and I had to be effiicient and effective and couldn't waste supplies. My boss, the store manager, was the hardest worker I have ever known. He ended up owning that location and several others, and quite wealthy. Those are all valuable lessons, that if you learn them, you get to move up in the economic system. Do you not understand how that works? And there were people living off of those wages, which adjusted for inflation is less than what fast food pays today. Of course of what "live" means has changed Frank |

Frank,
I think you are wasting your energy. He can't understand what you are talking about. "Frank Boettcher" wrote in message ... On Fri, 3 Nov 2006 13:37:10 -0800, "Capt.
