Sure it's a concern, but you do not need a radar to know

where traffic
is. You can check in with Houston Traffic and ask whats

coming in and
out, Infact you do not even need to ask, just tell them

who you are,
what you are on,

, then wait for the laughter to stop....

and where you are(entering at the Kemah channel bouy 62
whatever) and tell them where you are going. They will

tell you of
anytraffic you are going to meet. You can check in at any

point of the
You could mount the dome on the front of your mast.

Some are skippered by pros and others are pleasure boats
with semi-trained, possibly drunk red-necks at the helm

(this is Texas
after all).

So, you've met Joe.

Gulf, unless I want to tow the boat down and launch it

there.

isn't that the idea behind a ''trailerable boat'' ?

Jim... get the radar.... don't look back. It's one

thing to know where
you are, and another entirely to know where everyone

else is in relation
to your position.

Radar will expand your sail times and remove much angst

regarding night
sails.

They have small radome units with flat panels now that

take little power
and no room at all.

Probably good advice. I'm looking at the Furino 1623. -

Small radome and
low current drain.

That Furuno model is a suitable unit for a smaller boat.

It's as fine a
radar as any other in its specification range.

Power Requirements

12 or 24 VDC Only, 36 Watts
Approximately 8 Watts, in Standby/Watchman Mode

Well, yeah. Unless you're really picky, why does it matter?

Well, Doug it mattered because the poster said he could use a portable
DVD player to reproduce HD. Can't be done at this time.
