Default Cure for Global Warming

If man is causing global warming, then man can cure it.

There is only one viable option -

Atomic Power!

Just like the French, we can replace all of our power plants with atomic
powered plants. We can heat houses with sub critical nuclear piles that
simply generate heat. These same piles can also power cars. We can go to an
all nuclear Navy and atomic powered aircraft and rockets. There have even
been nuclear batteries and nuclear powered medical implants!

Nuclear energy is proven to be safe and clean. The nuclear industry creates
high paying tech jobs. We can export our nuclear expertise to lesser
developed countries.

Rather than waste money on silly global warming studies and even sillier
solar power schemes, it's time to roll up our sleeves and get those atoms
smashing!

More nukes and less kooks!

And then what happens when we tun out of uranium, and all the other
elemental radioactive materials? We just start splitting hydrogen atoms
for fun and profit? And what about all the spent waste? Isn't one of
the only things they've found that cleanses nuclear waste after a long
ling time swamp environments? And doens't China and Russia have some of
the largest reserves of unmined eadioactive elements?

Not going to happen anytime soon. The main point of nuclear energy is
that you get a *lot* of energy from a small amount of fuel.

We just start splitting hydrogen atoms
for fun and profit?

Probably not, since you can't split an atom with only one proton.
Hopefully, we'll be *fusing* hydrogen atoms sometime in my lifetime, but
unfortutately the fusion horizon hasn't gotten any closer.

And what about all the spent waste?

That is a problem. Not an insurmountable one, but it's a serious one.

Isn't one of

You don't "cleanse" radioactive atoms, you patiently wait for them to
decay on their own. Some of them take a really long time. Never heard
anything about a swamp, but it won't help.

And doens't China and Russia have some of
the largest reserves of unmined eadioactive elements?

Maybe. Not sure what that has to do with the price of eggs.

Glen is right that nuclear energy *can* be done safely and economically
- France has shown it to be the case.

The question we US citizens face is whether the American system can run
nuclear plants safely and efficiently. If Consumers Energy (Ohio) is
any guide, the answer is no. When you have managers constantly cutting
costs to bolster the bottom line, anti-regulatory zealots eliminating
required safety proceedures, and a political spoils system that rewards
the freest-spending lobbyist it becomes dubious proposition.

Actually, a fair number of former rabid anti-nuke environmentalists are now
saying the same thing. I support AP.

Let's..and that little waste problem..you people never heard of
depleated uranium shells?
You can get rid of them at super sonic speeds.

Why don't we send the spent fuel rods into space... seems like a good way to
do it.

Well someone will protest that Jon. They worry about launch vehicles
exploding on takeoff ect..

Packing it into projectiles and making a rail gun that could launch
them into deep space would be a safe way, plus you could even shoot at
stars.

But should we pollute deep space?
