I've heard that expression before but didn't know the story
behind it. I don't understand why the neighbors stopped her
father with his shotgun.... would have served the perp right.

Who knows, we all have our days

I wonder if they thought you meant to be like Bubbles,
bragging about how much wind was in your photo rather than
simply trying to see how accurately anybody could guage the
wind strength from it.

Photos almost always understate the wind & waves. I tried to
take that into account in looking at yours. Also, looking
upwind gives a different impression than looking downwind,
which is one reason why your pics were good (giving an all
around view).
