That's one long way to go to get a boat. Frank You're right Frank! The Gulf is a beautiful place though, and I'm glad I had the chance to see it. Yep. Too bad you didn't have time to stay and sail the Islands down there. My timing is off, will be down there sometime in Oct., would have liked to have sailed with you. And, my truck needed a new challenge though. I got about 9 mpg's pulling the boat at a steady 60 mph. Not too bad considering the load and engine size. In August, I towed my brother in laws boat from Biloxi to Mexico beach, partly as a favor to him, and partly as a test to see what my Dakota is good for. I only got 12.2MPG with a 3.9L auto. Also told me that my Dakota is maybe marginal for my short list of boats. His boat about 800 lbs. lighter than I'm thinking and, although well within the rated towing capacity, the truck struggled a bit, particularly on hills. Frank I only wish I had had the time to sail her home, now that would have been something! Every place I stopped, people came out to admire her. Scout |

With it all, I would be about 800 lbs. under the truck's rated tow capacity, but right on the Gross Combined (assuming two passengers). A little too close, possibly. Worse case I move forward, truck turns out to be marginal, and I replace the truck. Not a big deal. Frank |
