You think the Z60 is better than a Sony W7 or W 5?

The W5 and W7 are two of the Sony units I know have poor focusing when
the light is not bright. If you only intend on using them outdoors,
then they would be fine. I also take issue with Sony stuff at times
because it can break...seems more delicate than some other brands.
Sounds silly, but you can look up the W5 on Amazon and read the
customer reviews. Some time ago I remember too many people agreeing the
focus was a weak point. Some of this is operator error of course. But I
tried a W5 and got blurry shots as well because it could not lock focus
indoors very well. The Sony L1 was far better.
Your expectations are what's important here.

Sorry, no pics; the OptioWP was in my pocket but I was too busy to

Good little camera...I must pick one up soon and leave the others home.

I love the bulletproof nature of the OptioWP. I can slip it in my
pocket and not worry if I hop in the kayak of get splashed in a dink.
Its waterproof to 5 feet and has no external moving parts, so it's
also sand proof, etc. It definitely wins in "the camera that takes
the best picture is the one you brought with you" department.

However, I've been disappointed in the quality of the pics in
demanding situations. There is no viewfinder and the screen is washed
out by bright light. There have been times that I've just held it up
and hit the shutter, hoping for the best. Last week we sailed (yes
we were actually sailing!) through three pods of whales. These aren't
bad as snapshots:

http://www.sv-loki.com/whale2.jpg
http://www.sv-loki.com/whale3.jpg

but they don't compare to what I got with the Canon G5 3 years ago:
http://www.sv-loki.com/Whales/whales.html

One thing I keep forgetting to do with the Optio is to manually preset
the focus - that would have helped for the whale shots. And, although
the WP is still sold, there are three models newer.

And of course, the G5 (or any other camera I have) would not have been
there for:

Jeff, love the whale shots no matter the focus. Awesome that you were
close to them. There are some 300 dollar super-zoom cameras that may be
worth checking out. Kodak's Z650 is among them with a 10 times optical
zoom of pretty good quality. I've been using the tiny cameras on board
because I'm still sorting out the boat and Thomas. This coming weekend
the DSLR comes along for the first time. I'll either get some good
shots or tell a sad (but funny) story of a lost 1700 dollar camera.
It's in a Pelican case at least.

I believe that Ansel Adams used a cheap instamatic camera in his career.
It's not the camera, even pin hole cameras which cost practically nothing
can take fantastic pictures. It's the photographer.

Right you are. Poor RB!

No amount of plastic surgery would make Tori Spelling beautiful and no
amount of camera equipment will make RB an artist!

Scotty;

I hate like hell to step into a discussion with these "Camera Pro''s but
I have to tell you again; DON"T OVERLOOK THE:

Kodak; Easy Share CX7330!!
It is in the price range you're talking about. Has ALL THE Features the
pro are talking about. Auto focus, plus 4 manual stops. Plus a Video
Setting ( Not the greatest but GOOD) A 4 power zoom lenses. A manual
peek focus plus a back screen focus & review

Image stor., Album , Slide Show = + other features I don't use.

It's about 2"x4"by about 1" thick. It has a Auto Lenses cover, an
internal flash, a self timer for getting in the picture yourself. a
sound system to go with the video.

I've been carrying it in my pocket for at least a couple of years. No
damage!!

It has been replaced with a newer model but is still around $150.00 or
less

It has a 37mm.111mm(Equiv.)AF 3x Optical Kodak Retinar Aspheric All
Glass lenses but more important it has a outlets to let me transfer
pictures to my Web, my VCR, Computer or to print out photographs on my
printer 3 different sizes (another $150)

Had to say it. I'm not an expert in photography. Not at all but a sample
of the "Easy Share" pictures are in my Signature.

I love my camera. CAMERA, one single unit. No extra lenses. My only
Access. is a $10 tripod to be used to copy other photos

Good Luck on your search.

What do you think of the little Fuji A500. The A600 doesn't
have a viewfinder and I'd prefer one.

The Fuji Finepix S7000 kicks ass on the Nikon D70!

Scotty, Fuji makes some great cameras, but the A500 is not one of them.
It suffers from poor focus and shutter lag. What's odd to me is that
Fuji is all about no shutter lag, good focus and ISO range on higher
end models, but it has yet to trickle down. The new F30 is an amazing
P&S from Fuji.
Have you also looked at KEH.com? They sell used gear in like new
condition. For example, they have a Pentax Optio S50 for 119 bucks.
Optio 555 for 179.00 and so on. Keh.com is a great company and backs
what they sell.

This was an odd failure from Fuji. Poor low light focus and no AF
assist lamp. Sharpness at 12MP CCD res. is poor and there is quite a
bit of barrel distortion.
With a sensor half the size of a D70 it's not likely to kick any ass
and barely measures up to my new Casio.
Crantz, sensor size and is more important than MP count. Only the
ignorant worries about MP counts. The 4 MP Nikon D2Hs blows away my D70
in every way, even though my D70 has 6.1 MP. In fact, quite a few
people feel the D2Hs beats the D200 which has 10.2 MP.
Go google up a storm, but you don't own any good cameras.

No, I'll check them out tonight. Have you ever dealt with
'PrestigeCamera'? They have the Z120 at $166. I checked
some reviews on them, over 1000 negatives! Apparently the
place is a real rip-off.
