No ****, Joe just posted this... Long Island WeatherLong Island Sound West Of New Haven Ct/Port Jefferson Ny- Forecast as of 3:21 PM EDT on July 9, 2006 Tonight... SW winds 10 to 15 kt...decreasing to 5 to 10 ... And it's a forecast!!!! Know what a forecast is, Joe? It's not the weather, now is it??? Oh, no!!! Does anyone really think Joe has even the slightest knowledge of boats, sailing or weather? With every post he digs himself in deeper. Here, Joe. Let's try again. Read CAREFULLY and SLOWLY. Focus! This is the ACTUAL weather for the 9th here, not a guess from the previous day!: http://weather.newsday.com/auto/news...sta tename=NA Actual weather report, Joe. Actual gusts to 25 knots. Wind speed of 20. You do know that predictions don't win out over actual events, right??? You forecast a long sea voyage, yet after seven years Redcloud is nearly rusted to the dock! That's reality! Ladies and gent's....allow me to introduce JOE, the dumbest fish ASA has ever witnessed! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! RB 35s5 NY The weather report is given in MPH, which should be converted as follows: kts X 1.150779 = mph 25 MPH gusts = 21.7 knot gusts 20 MPH windspeed = 17.4 knot windspeed 30 knot gusts = 34.5 mph gusts --AG |

Here's the actual report from the station about 3 miles south of where
booby sort of claims that he sailed. http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/dat...at=View+Plo t or http://tinyurl.com/ptkc3 The chart shows that the wind was below 6 kts until around 3pm, when it climbed to 10. At 6 pm it jumped to 15, with gusts of 18, and got a bit stronger after dark. Now, I have claimed that "all weather is local" but it does seem unlikely that King's Point, which is pretty well exposed to the South and West, would have much different wind from an area just a few miles away, actually within sight. Of course, its doubtful that Booby actually stayed out when the wind started to pick up. In fact, he never quite says that he was there, he only claims that "most boats were sent home." It's funny to watch how the story changes with time. His first two posts after the sail never mention wind, then the next morning he mentions reefing and "heavy air." One would think that if he really experienced 30 knots he would be eager to mention it right away. Later in the day, after hearing from other boaters, he suddenly claims it was "gusting to 30 knots for two hours" and "It sent most boats home by 5:30." Note that at 5:30 King's Point, just 3 miles south, only shows 10, gusting to 12 at that point. Then realizing his blunder, he starts backpedaling, claiming it was at least 20. Then he claims victory by citing a weather station 35 miles away, on the South side of Long Island, that actually on showed a sustained wind of 16 knots. My guess is that Booby went out for about an hour, and when the wind picked up to 15, he took an a reef and headed home. BTW, he claims to have been out at sunset, but that was at 8:30 and he posted at 9:07 that night. And, while there might be a "funnel affect" around Execution Rock in a NE wind, this was a SW, so this area is where the Sound is opening up to the wind, not funneling. Its easier to believe that Booby's friend at Throgs Neck had some gusts from the funneling. Capt. Rob wrote: Why don't you post a weather report from LIS? Why? You couldn't make heads or tails of the first one I posted!!! Tell us again what the wind speed was? 13 knots???? Bwahahahahahahahahhah HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! RB 35s5 NY |

Sorry, Jeff...I'll dismantle you with clear facts and you can join the other bodies in the pit of dopey doom! either your lying or not reading my first post which mentions the following.... "With a single reef and the 110 popped we flew on a close reach...the surge of power felt so far beyond anything the C&C 32 could do." Not only that you clearly can't read the report closest to where we we http://weather.newsday.com/auto/news...sta tename=NA Winds steady at nearly 20 knots BEFORE 6 pm, Jeff. OOPS!!!! Sounds like we had a bit of wind, Jeff. And yes, I'm just 20 minutes from home. RB 35s5 NY |

Its easier to believe that Booby's friend at Throgs Neck had some gusts from the funneling. We actually sailed over to the bridges at the start of the sail, but as we approached the wind became really gusty and just plain bothersome, even if Thomas dug the spray and laughed everytime we caught a wave for it.
