All that the "undercarraige" protection does is bend up into the suspension and drivetrain when you scrape across something. Plastic skidplates are even more of a joke, as much as the "Outback" in the real outback: http://www.4x4now.com/eh.htm http://www.4x4wire.com/trail/report/ut/elephanthill/ http://sangres.com/features/4x4.htm Where does one put the winch on an "Outback"? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa!!!!!! |

Plastic skidplates are even more of a joke, as much as the "Outback" in the real outback: There are all kinds of off road applications out there and the Outback is used in plenty. It's one of the top cars around in PA for example where many homes are set in unpaved areas and outselling all other cars there and only trailing pickup trucks in sales. The undercarriage transmission cover is not just for rocks and you could find almost the same thing on the original and amazing Toyota Landcruiser. |

The Landcruiser had 1/8" steel skid plates. I pulled them because they kept bending into the driveshaft. The transmission did not have a skid plate, except for a little bendy thing. My trusty LC went up both the Como Lake Road (Colorado's worse!) and Elephant Hill (Utah's worse) at night! It is a truly amazing Landcruiser! Amen! |

Living on an unpaved road is not an "off road application". Cheers Marty |
