The AR is not my first gun. It's my post Katrina purchase.

I'd expect the best post-Katrina purchase to be a couple of really surly
Rottweilers.

Don't need any dogs at the moment.

Not really. There have been a number of people mauled by dogs lately, even an
elderly woman and a kid killed in seperate incidents. In all cases the dog
owner was in deep dog crap over it - even when his dog bit a kid that wandered
into his own yard. The woman who owned the pit bulls that got loose and killed
the older woman went to prison for manslaughter!! OTOH, no gun ever shot anybody
on its own.

Also, given the liability problem, Rottys, Dobermen and other "police" or
"attack" breeds should be avoided else the other guy's lawyer will claim that
you're a vigilante and bought the dog hoping it'd bite somebody.

It's a bad scene out there. A kid I know works for a towing company. Over a
year ago a drunk showed up in the middle of the night demanding his impounded
car back. When the kid explained that he couldn't release it without police
permission the guy attacked him so the kid stabbed him with a screwdriver. Even
though the wound wasn't life threatening and was in self defence the cops put
the kid in jail for a couple days til a judge released him, then he had to sweat
til the DA decided not to prosecute, then sweat some more until the drunk lost
the lawsuit. Meanwhile, he couldn't leave the state.

I can't speak for anybody else but, having modest familiarity with Maryland gun
and self defence laws and jurisprudence I can say that I avoid Maryland whenever
I can and if I lived there I'd move. Maryland law does NOT permit you to defend
your home. If it is invaded, you must run away if possible. You may only fight
back if you are cornered like a rat and threatened with death or great bodily
harm. Robbery or a minor as kicking does not suffice. So, if there ever is
looting and violence like ocurred in New Orleans, you best flee. That AR-15 will
just land you in prison.

Katy,

I've sailed with about a half dozen ASA'ers and their friends; each time
has been enjoyable.

I've found that in person they leave the rough side on the discussion
group. In person they are simply plain old sailors

Vito,

Sorry to hear of your health problems. I hope you can hang in there.
I've been able to do it for 17 years with Myastenia Gravis before
"Beaching Myself" I've been very lucky. I hope the same for you.

As have I....the Internet affords a certain amount of
anonymity...people will write things in ng's that they would never
express verbally in a group. Except for me. I'm the same here as I
am anywhere. In fact, I'm tamer here.

Katy,

The East Coast is subject to the very same condition that hit the Gulf
Coast. I wish there was a scenario to protect Life and Property when
inferstructure fails but I don't know of one.

To Colorado, is it still legal to shoot your wife there? ;-)

Cheers

Thom, is there any way you can quote from the passages you reply to?
With all the traffic here, it is sometimes hard to figure out
where you're coming from unless I do a complete search of the thread
(which is a royal PITA)
