You're really pretty good at making this stuff up, aren't ya, Mooron. Like the hunters would obey such rules, even if they actually existed. Yup.. you just can't get better than 2nd hand tear jerk info from someone who thinks "Trophy Hunting" is a sport and heart shots avoid spoiling the mount.... Spoken like one who hasn't the slightest idea which end of the gun to place against his shoulder. Figures. Yup.... next thing you know Max will become the Masked Seal Avenger... prowling the ice with his mighty katana... slicing the heads off of Newfoundlanders trying to put food on the table for their family since the same people who bitch so loudly about the seal hunt have had no problems with fishing the Cod to the brink of extinction... with nary a complaint from Max... since Cod don't look that cute and Bridgette Bardot never made an appeal against it... and Paul McCartney never voiced objection to the raping of our fishing grounds... since they both gorge themselves on fish... like the seals they want to protect The only raping going on near "your" fishing grounds is some cannuck fishermen having their way with you when you make the poignant mistake of strolling onto their dock at quitting time. Squeal like a pig, old boy. Max |

Excellent refutation Max, when you can't belie an argument, call the expounder a liar. Could you provide some sort of documentation from a Canadian Government site that indicates that these rules do not exist? I believe you have some sort of medical training, how long do you suppose the average mammal would survive in sub-zero temperatures with no epidermis? Cheers Marty |

Could you provide some sort of documentation from a Canadian Government site that indicates that these rules do not exist? I made the comment after doing a fairly lengthy Google search to see if there was any validity to his claim. I found nothing to confirm them. But frankly the existence of such laws is without meaning unless they are enforced. According to several sources, the harp seal hunts continue as they have for decades without any substantive changes. I believe you have some sort of medical training, how long do you suppose the average mammal would survive in sub-zero temperatures with no epidermis? Reports state the pups bay for up to an hour, with an average of about half that. But that's hardly the point. Would you consider it humane to castrate a man, cut off his hands and feet, and disembowel him with a scalpel, provided this was all done in sub-zero temperatures and he'd be assured of dying before too long? Or did it possibly occur to you that the pups experience excruciating pain during the skinning process prior to death? Your question is irrelevant. Max |

You really should try to view more recent footage... instead of 20 year old
videos. Oh that's right... those guys that aren't enforcing the guidelines on the sealers .....but are enforcing the guidelines on the activists are to blame. You do realize no valuable footage has been taken for many years since it is illegal to approach closer than 500 meters of a sealer while he is working over a defenceless whitecoat and terrorizing it's family. We refer to that action as "Layin' a beatin' down".... DFO & CCG smackin' those nosey beatniks with hefty fines. Helicopter pilots can't even fly over a sealer at work without getting fined.... yup we protect our endangered species.... Newfie Sealers!! CM "Maxprop" wrote in message link.net... Actually there have been no less than 6 recent films made, mostly from a distance or from helicopters flying parallel to but not over the hunt zone. Greenpeace used to spray the pups with permanent green dye, fire cannons to scare the seals away, and other such measures until the Canadian gummint decided to play nasty. Unlike Greenpeace, I've never had any problem with the seal hunt--only its methods. Humans have a responsibility to kill animals humanely. There is nothing humane about the seal hunts. Of course you realize that had your government not limited the number of pups taken each year, the harp seal would likely be extinct by now. Nothing quite like an industry that runs itself out of business through its own sheer stupidity. Max |

Wahat part of 1973 to 2006 did you miss out on Max????? Unlike Greenpeace, I've never had any problem with the seal hunt--only its methods. Humans have a responsibility to kill animals humanely. There is nothing humane about the seal hunts. Of course you realize that had your government not limited the number of pups taken each year, the harp seal would likely be extinct by now. Nothing quite like an industry that runs itself out of business through its own sheer stupidity. Whoa..... first you don't have any problems with the hunt... yet you want it shut down! Next you claim the animals you have never personally witnessed being killed inhumanly... are being killed and skinned alive inhunanely??.... is this another one of your "I''ve been to an abatoire" stories? Follow that with you blaming the government and claiming seals as endangered... which of course the census states they are thriving.... and end it with dire forecasts of a global extinction... ya think you might be prone to "sensationalism" by any chance? Club a Seal... Save a Cod! CM |
