Katy... I'm kind of the "new kid on the block" here... so to speak.
I don't know CaptRob that well...

That's a very good thing..

Agreed.

much less if he truly exists...

oh, he exists all right...he is not a sockpuppet but he may have
sockpuppets (some think Binary Bill and Commodore Joe, etc...)

Bubspritke isn't smart enough to have very good sock
puppets, the ones he has always agree with him and talk in
the same phrasing. Easy to spot.

although I suspect that he does in some form or the other.

Yes, he has a form...you can't ignore it..it's big and louty...he does
post his picture, after al....

It would be better if we did all ignore him. It would be
cruel, but eventually he'd go away.

For that matter some of the others/regulars have me some what
stymied as well... relative to being "sockpuppets" or whatever.

Just takes time to know who is who, who is real, and who is not...Ganz,
Scotty, Seahag, Mooron, DSK, Tadpole, Old Thom, myself, Maxprop, NoPony,
Rngmastr, Scout, Bart jlrogers are all real...Crantz is a secret known
to only the elite...

'Bob Crantz' has tremendous wisdom to impart, from the
earthly & scientific to the ethereal & abstract.

... MysTerry is not real and is not even the real
original socpuppet. It's hard to know if Joe is real or not.

Yes, Joe is real. So is his boat. He's also unreal.

In spite of the mystique (for me at least) this web site is still a
fun and entertaining read.

Yes...it is or else a number of us would not have remained after all
these years...

This will help explain this newsgroup (turn subtitles on).
http://ldopa.net.nyud.net:8090/wp-co...teShowdown.swf

BTW this is not a website, it's usenet. Different medium,
different message. It's a free-for-all.

Like Jonathan once said... "this is the wild wild west of the cruising
forums". I believe it... cause I have the time to view most of them
that are active... on a daily basis.

Now *that* is scary.

Regards
Doug King

Welcome, Bill. Indeed I am real. I'm also one of the few people who
actually sails rather than just talking about it. Doug, who is quick to
jump on any thread (rarely starts his own of course) is a powerboater
and owns no sailboat of any kind. Same for Bob Crantz. Mooron does not
sail, his boat is landlocked for repairs.
Others here do most of their sailing from the easy chair, an issue of
Cruising World (stolen from a library no doubt) at their side.
Wait for spring and summer...see who actually just talks about sailing
and who has a website filled with genuine sailing fun. As for the
others, most sail older tired boats, dreams of a performance sailboat
long shattered by their own financial limitations or lack of
imagination. Most of the "sailors" here are a good deal older than me,
but they are hardly examples to follow.
All of these people know I have no sockpuppets, but be warned!!! If you
agree with me on anything or challenge the mindless mass of CPU
sailors, you'll ne quickly labeled as "me" or Captain Neal.
Most of all, just have fun. If you want serious sailing talk go
elswhere or join an e-mail group. Most of us realize that such behavior
must be limited to this one area, though a few (Doug again) think it's
okay to troll elsewere.
Good luck.

BTW, my new boat....

Bobsprit ain't that smart. Scott is great guy, but
personally I would not want him mad at me.

I promised him I wouldn't hurt him. What more can I do?

And you promised to bring him food. That should have brought
him running... Thom's right, Bubbles is hiding in fear.

I used to live near the stockyards in the 70's.

Did you ever dine at the stock yard in?

Did you ever eat at Ted Bell's steak house? He invented the tin

foil covered
beanie.

No and No. Got in and out as quick as possible ( both cities).

ASA is akin to a bar, a sailor bar of sorts. Most of us sit at
the big table in the middle, drink rum and talk about sailing and
other varied topics. There's a smaller table where the racers
sit. And one for political talk. Then there's that small table
by the men's room, where the girly men hang out.
The 'lurkers' stop in for one drink at the bar and may, or may
not say hi as they walk out.
We built a separate room for the Canadians, but they keep
sneaking back into the main bar.

Like any other bar, we have our share of stupid, loud, obnoxious
drunks who stumble around call themselves 'Commodore' and annoy
everybody.
Occasionly , rats from other bars stop in and try to start
fights. We deal with them and send them on their merry way.

Then there's Bob. He cleans the bathrooms, in exchange for free
drinks. He'll sit at a table, blabbing on and on about nothing.
The sailors tell him to get lost, but he just drones on and on
and on, until the bartender, Thom, yells for him to clean up the
puke in the bathroom.

Shall we start a tab?

Scotty

Ok Bill I'll set you straight.
Ol Thom is real, ypu wanna know anything about sails ask Thom.
Scotty is real so is Ganz, Seahag, Mooron, DSK, Tadpole, OZ, Matt
Collie, Otmb, Bart, Notpony, Lady Sailor, Both Mikes are real, one a
Merchant marine, the other cruising the sea of Cortez, scout, Jolly
rogers, Martin are real.

Rob is real, but not a Capt. He's an pompous annoying NYer that is kept
by Suzy his wife. He will also post as Commodore Joe RedCloud because
he envies me, my boat, nautical skills and life at sea, and is to much
of a coward to speak as himself. Now he is postings as Mys Terry, thats
my wife that is 50 times better looking than his wife and a real 100
Ton Capt. It's all about envy. He also posted here awhile as BB for Bob
Brody, until he made several death wishes to fellow members and became
despised by all. All Rob knows about sailing can be found in any
Circuit city catalog.

Crantz is real sorta.
Katy is a sock puppet.
Suzy is real and Robs wife
Capt. Neal is real but to busy sailing the Gulf Coast now to post
often, he has a web-site you might be able to learn from.

Any other questions?

Joe

HAHAHAHA...a sock puppet? Whose may I ask? Since a good many
people here know me in person and since I am traceable because I've
never hidden my real identity, I think you'd better do some research.

Like I said, Bill, sailing season is starting up again shortly. Count
the times these clowns actually go sailing. Little or never will be the
answer. But they'll be quick to tell you how to sail your boat!
Here's a shot of my old boat, Ghost after passing through a couple of
small squalls.

http://members.aol.com/bobsprit/images/stargray.jpg

Yet you'll NEVER see shots of the other's boats sailing. I wonder
why....
