Now does Bob Cranz really want to redo the unpleasantness of 1860-5?
We just about put a whompin on ya then with 1/4 yer population and 1/7 the industry. Things are a bit more even now. Besides, we dont b'leve in marry'n any closer than cousins. Ya gotta 'member, all them folks down in Palm Beach who couldnt figger out how to vote were all retired yanks, not natives. Wern't enough brain cells among em to push a nail thru a piece a paper. Up here in the panhandle where all the natives live, we had no problems. Livin and owning a boat up where the water turns solid dont sound to bright to me. I spent lotsa time in Ca and those people actually think that something that looks worse'n a po' cracker shack is worth $700,000. You gotta remember, Hillary is the souths revenge. |

All that moisture trapped in the shrink wraps and plastic hulls freezes and un freezes so many times they all develope osmosis blisters. Joe If a hull develops "humps" from sitting in a cradle, the keel isn't being properly supported. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...01593556HoPljK The boat is being supported as well as it would be while sitting in a cradle, the cradle pads are only there to keep the boat from tipping over. Haven't you seen the boat graveyards in south Florida?

A friend who was boat shopping once remarked that boats in FL looked older than their counterparts in the north. I ascribed this to the effects of sunlight and more use over a year. Bart Senior wrote: Sailing in the north requires seasonal work. It keeps the sailor in tune with boat maintenance. Sailing in the South requires seasonal work, too. Believe me, you do NOT want to do boat yard work in the summer down here. Down south it is easy to let a boat go. Even northern sailors tend to move their boats south to cut down on the annual maintenance. Or at least on haul-outs. The net result is that many, not all, southern boats fall into disuse and suffer from lack of maintenance. It's also a trap of thinking you can always go sailing, so you don't go today. Up north, you gotta go now before the season is over. ... It is the boat graveyard. I've seen a lot of derelicts in back lots up north, too. I can take you acres of boats in RI and Massachusetts that haven't been in the water for 10 years. A similar things happens with beer. Excess beer gets shipped south. Hey, I been missing out. Are you saying you guys send us free beer??!? DSK |

It ubiquitous. We have them here in the GLs in droves. Some haven't seen water, aside from the rain collected in their bilges, for over two decades. I suspect a few folks experienced surprise to learn that boats *do* require maintenance. Max |
