I've been posting here for 6 years, but not always as Scout.

I've lost: my sailboat in a card game, my kids to the education system, my
wife to a car accident, my hair to my genes, my back to hard labor, my
eyesight to middle age, my hands to carpal tunnel, my knees to football, my

I rarely post anything here along the lines of sailing advice, but I have
gotten a lot of help here. I sometimes post with a different name when I
feel like slapping someone without dragging Scout into it. I don't like to
argue, but I do like to throw peanuts.

Frank, no pseudonym or sockpuppets, been sailing for close to forty
years, no current boat, have owned three, last was Columbia 8.7M.
sailed many others, live in Mississippi.

I try to avoid (after realizing the futility of it) posting to
political trolls or Boob's puppet show. doesn't give me much to
respond to. I'd suggest you engage this site for entertainment and
not look for any worth in the ravings of any regulars. Although if
you ask an on topic question, knowledge abounds.

Looking for next boat. Katrina has slowed down my logistics plan for

close.

I sail a Gulf 29 Pilothouse Sloop, which I just put up for sale. Age 79
1/2 years and beaching myself this winter.

Sail out of the Pacific Northwest. My pictures are listed in my Home
Page/ Signature.

It's a strange group but fun! It's made up of all kinds. Some very sharp
sailors, with a lot of knowledge and some with a lot of thoughts not
worth a ****. You'll soon be able to tell for yourself.

We do like one another. Those that we don't like are soon gone; by their
own choice. We don't cater to anyone.

Katrina just gives you more opportunities. There
must be some gems on the market at bargain
basement prices, that can be fixed for a little sweat
equity.

Thom, Nice to meet you. I like your boat. I think it is a Garden
design as well isn't it? The Gulf 32 is anyway. I am a big fan of
pilothouses. After spending so much time in wet cockpits I am sold.

Gary,

The 29 is influenced by the Gulf 32. Newport Yachts brought the rights
from Bill and were the builders. They put the top half on a Newport 30
hull.... Made a great sailor but no wear near the room of the 32.

The 29 will sail circles around the 32 and is a pretty damn good light
air boat. It is a great boat for the NW. I sail her year round.. With
the inside helm and a Red Dot heater, the PH is very comfortable in cold
weather.

No doubt.

However, I determined that I would not buy another boat until I could
live in the same town as the boat. Plan was somewhat linear. Semi
retired in March, repairs and sale prep of present house, sell it,move
to coast (I'm five hours away) buy a lot, build a house and shop,
start a custom woodworking, finish carpentry business with emphasis on
marine, buy boat, life is good.

Have an option on a lot in Biloxi. Had moved about $15K of
woodworking machinery to the coast. about a third of it flooded and
ruined. Lot may not be buildable (at least for the shop portion and
the house may have to be elevated higher than I would like) and at
any rate must wait for new codes and insurability determination before
moving forward.

Currently no place to put boat if had one. Marinas all wiped out.
It will all work out eventually, but it is currently complicated and
my timetable of having all of that accomplished by summer 06 is not
realistic given the situation.
