Should a painting neessarily look real? If so, then why bother to paint
a picture when you can take one with a camera? Joe wrote: No, but clearly he was trying to make it look real and failed. ??? That's pretty impressive, you can tell what the guy was thinking just from looking at the painting? ... It not impressionist work, it's failed rendering IMO. Hopper isn't one of my favorites, but after seeing some of his paintings which are definitely master works, I went back & looked at his sailboat paintings again. Still worth a look, IMHO, and obviously a lot of people (not necessarily sailors) like them. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |
