Really??? Whoa! Doesn't sound very German.

Well it is, and it comes in a nice brown bottle and makes anything from the
Great White North--that would be Canada, for you Cannucks--taste like yak
urine by contrast.

I think Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Liszt, Van

Cliburn,
Beethoven, just to name a few, would find this whole thread very

amusing...

Here Katy, just for you!

Not very good, but Bach provided the inspiration for much modern music.

Okay. Did you write it?

Trick question, huh? If I say that I did not write it, then you can tell me
that it doesn't sound anything like the music that Bach wrote. If I say
that I wrote it, then you can accuse me of plagarism.

I don't mind what anybody thinks about it! I enjoy it. In fact, every now
and again I play some notes so well that I give thanks to God for allowing
me such pleasure. However, I know that I have a long way to go. I would
find it helpful to receive some specific criticism.

When I was young and started taking piano lessons, my first teacher, Mr.
King, emphasized each of his student's particular taste in music. He
theorized that if you were playing something you liked, you'd play it well.
And that worked. When I entered high school, I began piano with a woman who
emphasized a mathematical approach to music. She was way into Bach
inventions over his more emotional music. I hated it. Instead of paying
what I considered music, I started having to do endless repetition of Hanon
exercises. I brought some sheet music to a lesson (I even remember what it
was...the theme from Exodus...) She did not want me to play it...was not
wise enough to see that if she had interspersed some lighter, or even more
enjoyable, music into her regime, that maybe my interest level would have
stayed up...instead, I stopped piano and switched to voice. My suggestion
is play what you like. At your age, you are certainly not aiming to be a
concert pianist but are doing this for your own enjoyment. Next thing, let
go a little. Don't be so tedious with the timing. I'm not saying timing
isn't important, but if you start counting all the time, your music will
sound forced. So what if it's held a little too long here or you don't get
it quite right...just put yourself into it.

Balderdash. The finest beers in the entire world are brewed by the myriad
microbreweries right here in the good auld US of A.

A similiar thing happened to me. I ended up taking lessons in the violin at
the age of 11. I had no interest at all in the violin, and my fingers were
the wrong shape to be successful. I will never forgive the teacher, because
he knew that I loved the piano. I was too young to question the teacher.
My real love was the piano, but three years of violin lessons killed my
confidence in my ability to play music.

hahaha...my sister plays the clarinet...my brother played nothing..he used
to hate it when we'd practice and when the parents weren't;'t home he'd lock
us out so we couldn't play our respective instruments...we lived on a river
and she would take her clarinet down there and play...if I could have
figured out a way to get the piano down there, I would have done it...
