A growler get its name from the noise it sometimes makes as it bobs up
and down in the sea, not because it is scraping bottom. A bergy bit is about the size of a house. Both the bergy bit and the growler are usually calved from icebergs. I would guess an Ice ridge is were to masses of ice meet and the pressure forms a ridge. You got me on the candle Ice.
