I remember forming an opinion of one of the great sailors of the

world
a long time back when we were in the same series as he.
Quite a few years later I ran was at a function here in Oz and he

left
the group he was chatting with, walked straight up to me, shook my
hand and immediately started talking about the first time we'd met.
I quickly realised that I had been totally wrong about him, that he
was a sincere and gentle man who was also a ferocious competitor who
would use whatever tactic he was allowed under the rules to win.

So, let me get this straight, you thought this guy was an A-hole
because he used to beat you at racing, then you met him and realized
he's a nice bloke. So, you figure the opposite for his opinion of
you?

Nope, I thought he was a prick because of the number of protests he
initiated, then realised that he wanted a level playing field and that
rules were in place to be used.

I started the annual "Council for Disabled Persons 1997 Abilities Cup" with
a protest!

I requested depths around the course markers and the committee were unable
to provide them. I immediately stripped one of my female crew of her red bra
and flew it off the backstay. I was rewarded by a sudden alteration of my
PHRF rating to 150!! The *******s!
Red Protest Flag deployed we started with the race. I ended up winning on
corrected time and retracted the protest. I mean how great is that!

Funny thing was that about 2 minutes after I found out I won I ended up in
an argument with another Captain regarding what he thought was a violation
of racing rules because the girls on my boat distracted the guys on his
Niagara 35 by working the foredeck topless.

I love ginger beer but you only find it under deli labels here...grew up on
Vernor's ginger ale, but that was back when they used to put real ginger in
it...now it's synthetic (as if there's a shortage of ginger in the world...)
When I lived in St Louis, I would have to import Vernor's from
Michigan...got 2 cases of it once for my birthday...still drink it but it's
just not the same as it used to be...

Root beer isn't common in Oz, not something we grew up with.
Ginger Beer OTOH is very popular.
