We have a similar experience in the bay every summer... things change pretty quickly. Some of the newbies think it's odd that several of us start getting into our foulies after lunch when it's still sunny and warm. When they ask, I say, well, I know what's coming. Where does that wind come from?? Actually, it's pulled from the ocean, through the Golden Gate, and toward Bezerkely through The Slot. The interior valley heats up, hot air rises, cold air rushes in. It can also go from 30kts to zero. All you have to do is go around a corner. -- Jonathan Ganz (j gan z @ $ail no w.c=o=m) http://www.sailnow.com "If there's no wind, row." |
