so that portion of the conjecture gets
ignored as far as I'm concerned. The 4hp Yamaha or Nissan would be more than up to the job. Personally, I'd rather have a 4 hp Yamaha than a 5 hp Nissan. I'd really like to have the max HP for the Porta-bote. The Nissan 5hp weighs in at 55lbs. The Honda 5HP would be my top choice, but it's 60lbs, over the limit by 6 for the Porta-bote. We have three people in a dinghy plenty of times and I think the extra HP will be nice. The price of the 4,5,6 are also pretty close, so I thought I'd split it and get the 5. My Tohatsu that was stolen a few weeks back was a great motor. If you don't agree that the extra 1 hp will help please explain. Sandy at Porta-bote also suggested the 5 HP for the 10' model. I doubt money was much of a factor as they are so close in price. RB |

hey jon,
funny you should bring that up many people have a certain aspect of creativity to their thinking where the need to latch on to a single thought and pound it into the ground is considered boring. you having an off week by any chance? usually your more creative funny and subtle (if not downright annoying) then recent posts indicate. the political situation got ya down? gf. |

The weight limit for
the motor needs to be factored in with other things. What makes you think 6 pounds difference means anything? I was under the impression that Portabote rated the 54lb limit based on the transom capacity rather than weight leveraged at the stern. Price is not a factor here. You can get the Honda 5HP at Defender for just 1200.00. I'm going to call Porta-Bote tomorrow and see if the extra weight is a real issue. I think you said you have the 8 foot model. The 4 should work great on that and so would Honda's little (and pricey!) 2Hp. http://www.defender.com/inflatables/...onda_files/BF5 _L.jpg RB |

The extra 1 HP won't make any difference really. I doubt that it will
plane with two of you in it with 5HP and it will plane with just one with 4Hp -especially if it's propped properly Bobsprit wrote: so that portion of the conjecture gets ignored as far as I'm concerned. ![]() "Bobsprit" wrote in message Just curious--why do you want a four-stroke? In that size range the two-strokes generally work just as well and don't pay the weight or price penalty. There is a 7 pound penalty in the Merc range for example. That's worth having a cleaner quieter engine that takes regular gas. That's legitimate. What is the price difference? Max |
