one. Beat on that point he then worried over my comment that "I'd never met a
sailor with zero consideration for the look of the boat." In addition to that
Katy stated that looks shouldn't matter to a sailor.
What a load of crap, I say!
For me, the looks of a boat are worth about 20-30% of my final decision. It's
not more or less important than performance, but there's no reason to own a
ugly boat like Loco's or Capt. Neal's. Perhaps Loco "thinks" his boat is
attractive and that's fine. Some guys prefer women shaped like mailboxes too.
So....how did the beauty of your boat effect your decision to buy. Would you
have bought a boat that offended your eye if she crunched the numbers well?

I'm selling my boat, and several of my other toys (motorcycles, RV, and so
on). I want a bigger boat to sail in more comfort in the waters between Bob
and Scotty. But that's beside the point. Naturally I let people board her
and look around, inspect the sails, flush the toilet, check out the gadgets,
yadda yadda. So some idiot forces open my forward hatch without releasing
one of the locks and rips the hardware off the hatch. Then he runs off
without owning up. Since it's molded plastic, I'll have to replace the
hatch.
Well what do ya know, his wallet fell out and I found it in one of the
berths. It's got close to $50 cash in it. Is it dishonest to take the cash
to fix my hatch (and then mail him his wallet)?

Lady Kate: looks didn't come into it at all for purchase. i'd
watched her professionally built, seen her on the water, knew
what she was capable of, understood the design philosphy, and
grabbed her for spare change in a receivership sale because I
knew people locally would be deterred by her difference. They
were, and there wasn't time for the Sydney push to muscle in.
However, I did know what she looked like on the water, quite
different from the packingcaseatthedock effect, so there may
still have been a subliminal "looks" effect. Say, 2%. So at a
5% fiducial limit, not significant.

Are you 100% sure he did it? I would confront him. Demand he pay.
After he paid I'd return the wallet.

I may hold onto the 1100cc, but the 600cc is going. It's all preparations
for moving in a few/several months. My wife hasn't ridden her bike since her
car accident 2 years ago. I can't see keeping it if she doesn't ride. After
we move, I plan to upgrade all to the best of my financial ability.
